Trivia / Video Power

Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • Richard Newman voiced Max Force and his archenemy Mr. Big (and also Malkil, but his beef was with a hero with a different actor so it doesn't really stand out).
    • Kwirk and Spike are both voiced by Terry Klassen, and similarly get a few scenes where they exchange dialogue with each other.
  • Edited for Syndication: After Video Power underwent its format change for its second season, Power Team was spun-off into its own show with a new theme song. These were actually the same cartoon segments from the first season of Video Power, but without the live-action wraparound footage of Johnny Arcade offering game tips and news of latest releases (likely to avoid dating the show for reruns). Because the original cartoons by themselves were not long enough to fill-in a whole half-hour block, the episodes were recut with haphazardly-edited footage from other episodes in order to pad out the running time. Compare the original airing of the first episode (Yes, We Have No Tomatoes) to the later rerun version.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: During the 2000's the show seemed to have vanished, but come the 2010's episodes began to leak. Here's a video archive of all episodes currently online (both season 1 and season 2). It likely can't be rerun legally anymore, due to Disney having acquired the assets of Saban in 2001 alongside what's currently Freeform, BKN/Bohbot having gone bankrupt in 2009 and the original Acclaim having gone bust in 2004, leaving the potential rights fractured.
  • Out of Order: Occasionally in the first season, Johnny would give a pre-show rundown of a Power Team episode that didn't match what actually aired, suggesting a last-minute reshuffle.
  • Recursive Adaptation: Sort-of. The manual for Wizards & Warriors III uses what appears to be model sheets of Kuros and Malkil from The Power Team.
  • Recycled Soundtrack: In the animated Power Team segment, the majority of the background music is lifted straight from Kidd Video. They were both Saban productions.
  • Troubled Production: Per a former contestant, there was all sorts of trouble- one kid in the audience nearly peed on Johnny, the show avoided good female gamers, the kids weren't told "Hey, there's a finish line you gotta cross to claim your games.", etc.
