Trivia / To Sir, with Love

Go To

  • Black Sheep Hit: The title song was this for Lulu, who was more of an uptempo rock 'n' roll singer in general.
  • Disowned Adaptation: E.R. Braithwaite disliked the film, as it focused too much on his time in the classroom, while his book included more of his life story. He did recognize that, given the climate of the time, the studio could only get away with so much.
  • Doing It for the Art: Sidney Poitier and James Clavell wanted to do the film, but Columbia Pictures was reluctant. They agreed to make the film for small fees, provided that Poitier got 10% of the gross and Clavell 30% of the profits.
  • Dueling Movies: Up the Down Staircase was a very similar inner-city educational drama, also released in the summer of 1967.
  • Fake Nationality: Sidney Poitier was Bahamian-American, not Guyanese.
  • Sequel Gap: The TV sequel was made twenty-nine years after the first.
