  • Mecca Menard, the actress who was initially cast as Emily Sim/Young Melissa Scully, was upset during filming of the due to nosocomephobia^note otherwise known as a fear of hospitals and was inconsolable, so the producer had no other choice but to replace her with Lauren Diewold and re-shoot the scenes.
  • The casting director couldn't find an actress to play Scully in 1976 until the show's executive producer Robert Goodwin recruited Gillian Anderson's 14-year-old sister Zoe for the role.
  • The props specialist had difficulty getting authentic Christmas wrapping from the 1980s for the flashbacks.
