- Doing It for the Art: Shyamalan self-financed the movie using his salary from After Earth without any major studio backing with a small, but dedicated cast & crew behind him. He even stated how before he sent the movie to Blumhouse, he considered self-releasing the movie on VOD.
- Fake American: Olivia DeJonge and Ed Oxenbould, who portray Becca and Tyler, are Australian. Peter McRobbie, who portrays Pop Pop, is Scottish but has lived in the US since childhood.
- Those Two Actors: DeJonge and Oxenbould would later go to star in the 2016 holiday horror movie Better Watch Out together.
- Working Title: "Sundowning" (a term for when people who suffer from dementia become more restless and unstable after the sun goes down).
- What Could Have Been: Shyamalan revealed he intended to add a reference to The Visit in Glass (2019), which would canonically tie The Visit to the Unbreakable-Split-Glass trilogy (the impostor grandparents escaped the same mental asylum as the one most of Glass is set in).
