!!The novel
* CompletelyDifferentTitle:
** The Italian title of the book is "L'Ombra dello Scorpione" ("The Shadow of the Scorpion"). There ''is'' a line about Randall Flagg being "the shadow of the owl at midnight and the scorpion at high noon," but since the symbol is never repeated or expanded, it's a somewhat odd choice for the title.
** On the other hand, the Swedish title, "Pestens Tid" ("The Age/Time of Pestilence/the Plague", depending on how you translate), arguably works better than the original.

!!The miniseries
* ActorAllusion: [[Series/TheBradyBunch Mike Lookinland]], who was a cameraman, has a cameo part as one of the Boulder residents. Stu addresses him as "Bobby" at one point.

There are also notable cameos by Creator/KathyBates, Kareem Abdul-Jabar, and [[CreatorCameo Stephen King himself]] as one of the Free Zone members.
* CaliforniaDoubling: Closing the Lincoln Tunnel in New York for filming would have been insane, so instead they used the Armstrong Tunnels in UsefulNotes/{{Pittsburgh}}.
* DeletedScene: A still exists of at least one deleted scene from the miniseries, showing Joe Bob Brentwood in his squad car after he gets sick.
* RetroactiveRecognition: [[{{Series/Scrubs}} Dr. Kelso]] is Frannie's dad in the miniseries.
* StarMakingRole: Prior to his appearance in the miniseries, Gary Sinise's career mostly consisted of guest appearances in various tv shows. His casting in ''Film/ForrestGump'', ''Film/Apollo13'', ''Series/{{CSINY}}'', etc. all came after.
* TheDanza: Joe Bob Briggs (best known for hosting ''[=MonsterVision=]'' on TNT in the '90s) is Deputy Joe Bob Brentwood.
* UnintentionalPeriodPiece: The clothing, cars, and hairstyles set the mini-series firmly in 1994. Even some of the cast were known for their late 1980s/early 1990s popularity, but have since been much less active in their careers.
** The book itself was an Unintentional Period Piece before King re-released the book with some updated material. [[TechnologyMarchesOn It has since become one again.]]
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Some of the proposed actors for Flagg included Creator/ChristopherWalken, Creator/JamesWoods, Creator/WillemDafoe, and Creator/JeffGoldblum. In one of King's intro essays for the Uncut Edition, he also suggested Robert Duvall for Flagg and Music/BruceSpringsteen for Larry Underwood.
