Trivia / The Simpsons S4 E17 "Last Exit to Springfield"

Go To

  • Blooper: When Kent Brockman interviews Homer about organized labor being a "lumbering dinosaur" and Homer screaming, it's clear that this was not the original dialogue, as Brockman's lips don't match up with what he is saying and Homer's regular screaming animation of him waggling his tongue while he screams isn't used.
  • Creator's Favorite Episode: The creative team named this as one of their five favorite episodes.
  • Magnum Opus Dissonance: Despite the above, some of the writers who worked on the episode admitted that, at the time, they didn't think it would be anything approaching "the best episode of all time" and were shocked when it was named such.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The dentist was going to be voiced by Anthony Perkins, who died before he could record his lines. Anthony Hopkins and Clint Eastwood also turned down the role. And O. J. Simpson was originally going to be cast as a news panelist, but he turned it down and was replaced by Dr. Joyce Brothers. Given O.J.'s later murder trial, the writers were glad that he wasn't picked.
    • For that matter, Brothers originally had several more lines, but almost all of her dialogue was cut for timing reasons, resulting in executive producer Al Jean later admitting that they might as well have just had one of the show's regular voice actresses impersonate her, for all the difference it would have made.
