Trivia / The Simpsons S12 E5 "Homer vs. Dignity"

• Recycled Script: We have the family in financial trouble, Lisa worrying over a Simpson male's soul ("Bart Sells His Soul") and Homer dressing up as Santa Claus ("Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire""). It also isn't the first time Homer has worked as Mr Burns' assistant while Smithers is on vacation ("Homer the Smithers").
• What Could Have Been: The original ending had Homer accepting Mr. Burns' offer and throwing pig's blood at the parade goers while tearfully shouting "Merry Christmas! God help me!" Then, the scene flashes forward to the future, where an elderly Homer tells a group of future children that, because of him, Christmas is now celebrated with pig's blood being thrown at people. Then when the ending was changed to Burns throwing stuff at people, he was originally going to throw gravy, but it was changed to fish guts. Also according to the closed captions there was supposed to be a parody of "Silver Bells" called "Silver Chum" over the end credits, but that was likely scrapped due to not being able to get the rights to the original song.
