• California Doubling:
  • "Philadelphia" is actually Charleston, South Carolina. The "docked" ships you see are at Patriot's Point, and you can even see the first nuclear powered mercantile vessel, the NS Savannah there in the film (it was moved from there in 1994), a huge anachronism.
  • Various places in Tooele and Salt Lake counties in Utah play the role of Nevada.
• What Could Have Been: John Carpenter was attached to the project early on, but hit a snag while writing the screenplay, unable to come up with a good direction for the third act.
