Trivia / The PJs

Go To

  • Channel Hop:
    • First two seasons ran on FOX, third season ran on The WB.
    • It was shown on [adult swim] for a little while before disappearing from the lineup and showing once again on TVOne and MTV2. Currently, it airs on fuse.
  • Creator Killer: The cancellation of both this series and Gary and Mike in the same year proved to be a double whammy that Will Vinton Studios never recovered from, and it ended up being sold and reformed as Laika a short while afterwards.
  • Edited for Syndication:
    • Had occasional afternoon airings where certain vulgarity would cut (it helped the show used it mercifully compared to other adult animation).
    • In an odd case, some airings pasted the opening theme music onto the show's eerily silent ending credits.
    • In a variation of Credits Pushback, airings on fuse superimpose the end credits over the last 30 or so seconds of each episode.
    • Originally the episodes used licensed songs on occasion. When the show reran on [adult swim] and other networks by the 2010s? The songs were replaced by soundalikes or something to fit the mood of their respective scenes.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Wasn't released on DVD until 2011, when Warner Bros. decided to sell its portion of the series to Disney, who produced the first two seasons, ending ownership disputes in the process.
  • The Other Darrin: Eddie Murphy voiced Thurgood up into the third season when other commitments forced him away from the show. Phil Morris took over the character afterward.
  • The Other Marty: While Murphy was still voicing Thurgood, whenever he wasn't available to re-record lines of dialogue, Morris (as mentioned above) and Mark Moseley would fill in instead.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: For years, an ownership spat between Disney and Warner Bros. over the property kept potential home video releases in limbo. In 2008, both parties settled by WB agreeing to sell all of their rights to Disney, allowing a home video release in 2011 by Lionsgate as part of their deal with ABC Studios.
  • Short Run in Peru: The last three episodes weren't shown for two years after being canceled, and even then they were shown in the UK. They weren't shown in the show's country of origin, the U.S., for seven years.
  • Un-Cancelled: FOX actually cancelled the show at the end of its second season. The WB rescued it and picked it up for a third.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • An early screen test at the 00:19 mark shows an early model of Thurgood much taller than his final design. It's unknown if the model was used to test animations or was meant to be used for the show.
    • The original unaired pilot from 1997 featured a different character as Muriel (Thurgood's wife), played by a different voice actress. Also, a different "kid" tenant was seen, using the model that would eventually be used for Calvin; it's unknown whether it was actually intended to be Calvin or a different character.
