- Corpsing: During the scene where Terry gets injected, Boris Karloff was actually sticking the syringe into a potato beside Charles Starrett's head, just out of camera range. Several times, the potato kept exploding, and they couldn't film the scene without bursting into hysterical giggles.
- Creator Backlash: Myrna Loy was mortified when she saw the torture scene played back and said "this is obscene".
- Fake Nationality: Boris Karloff (born in London) and Myrna Loy (born in Montana!) as Chinese characters.
- Scully Box: Boris Karloff was wearing platform shoes to appear taller than the other cast members.
- What Could Have Been:
- During the torturing sequence, it was planned to have Von Berg suspended over the crocodile pit and Neyland Smith in the wall of spikes. They swapped them around, realising it would make for sense for a chubbier captive to be impaled.
- The original director was Charles Vidor. But he was replaced after a few days by Charles Brabin.
- Clark Gable was considered for the role of Terry before Charles Starrett was cast.
