- Actor Allusion:
- In the pilot, Taco attempts to draft a player from the Calgary Stampeders. Jon Lajoie, who plays Taco, is the only Canadian actor in the league.
- The use of "frittata" in place of "retarded" comes from a joke in Nick Kroll's standup.
- In "Flowers for Taco", Taco is revealed to be fluent in French when he stops smoking weed. In real life Jon Lajoie is from Quebec and is fluent in French.
- The Cast Showoff - Jon LaJoie has broken out into song on several occasions.
- Channel Hop: FX moved The League, along with Legit (2013) and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, to the comedy-focused spinoff channel FXX in fall of 2013.
- Playing Against Type: For Mark Duplass (Pete), who normally does more "mumblecore" indie movies.
