* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: While this series is itself readily available on DVD and the Internet to this day, particularly through Ross's official website (and regularly streamed on Twitch since November 2015), its predecessor, KOCE-produced ''The Magic of Oil Painting'' with Ross' mentor Bill Alexander, hasn't been so lucky, and to date, very few episodes are available even on online video streaming websites, and it's to the point where an actual start date for the program hasn't yet been established (though as it lasted nine seasons, most sources say 1974).

** In ''WesternAnimation/{{Archer}}'', Krieger spends an episode with his beard neatly combed and hair puffed into an afro, making him look much like the man himself... albeit in a skintight white DiscoDan outfit, complete with gold male-symbol pendant on a gold chain necklace. In one scene, Archer lampshades it, yelling at Krieger to 'move your giant, [[BuffySpeak Bob Ross-ian head!]]'
** ''VideoGame/PAYDAY2'' also got in on this when they released a trailer in 2015 for the holidays entitled [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Pt16eIh5X4 "The Joy of Heisting"]]. It also features Chains playing the part of Bob Ross.
** ''WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic'' parodies Ross at the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKpM33kdG1Y opening of the review]] for ''Film/GhostbustersII'', ending up doing a collage of the picture of the first film, to illustrate how much the sequel is a rehash (with a baby added).
** ''WesternAnimation/RalphBreaksTheInternet'' features Ralph doing a Ross-style painting video during the [=BuzzTube=] montage.
** When WebVideo/GrayStillPlays plays ''VideoGame/TheSims4'', one of his recurring Sims is a female with a blonde afro named Bab Ross, who is essentially a female version of Bob.

** Ross usually painted every painting that appeared on the show three times: The first as a reference, the second being the one he'd paint on camera and a third that included extra details and would be included in his instruction books. According to a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDs3o1uLEdU a documentary]] by the ''New York Times'', many of these paintings are archived at the headquarters of Ross' business, while his friends Annette and Walt Kowalski also own a complete collection. Some of the paintings from the headquarters were donated to the permanent collection of the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.

* AuthorExistenceFailure: The show stopped when Ross was diagnosed with lymphoma. He passed away from the disease in the Fourth of July in 1995. According to a 2011 PBS documentary, Ross actually had reference paintings ready to go for a 32nd series but was too sick to continue. Also inverted: one of his final acts was to certify other people to teach his methods so they can establish workshops across the U.S. Given the ease of this teaching method, you can usually find a similar workshop at a local hobby center.
