Trivia / The Hobbit (2003)

Go To

  • Dummied Out:
    • The “Over Hill and Under Hill” level has a lot of hidden content, including a massive area with things entirely absent from the rest of the game, such as an obstacle of boulders rolling down a hill at the player. There is even an entire boss battle that can be fought.
    • Near the end of the level “A Warm Welcome”, Bilbo retrieves the Black Arrow and makes his way back to Bard, and begins to enter another room when the screen suddenly fades to black and and the game cuts to Bilbo meeting Bard outside the town hall. Doing some Sequence Breaking will allow access to this area, which has an entire obstacle course unlike anything else in the game.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The sequences of throwing flaming pinecones at the Wargs and Goblins, riding the Great Eagles, and escaping the Elven halls in barrels were all going to be interactive minigames, until the developers dropped them due to time constraints and replaced them with cutscenes.
    • In early stages of development, there were plans for you to be able to play as Gandalf in the last level.
    • Originally, the elven guards would be alerted to your presence if Bilbo stepped on twigs or knocked over piles of rocks, though neither appear in the final product.
    • There were entire areas that were Dummied Out, that you would go to in Lake-town after stealing the Black Arrow, and an greatly expanded area in "Over Hill and Under Hill" that was previously at the beginning of the level.
    • A cave troll was going to serve as a Boss Battle near the end of "Over Hill and Under Hill". It ended up being Dummied Out, although there are still several Orphaned References to the troll throughout the level.
    • Bilbo would have been followed by a small goblin that would terrorize him throughout his adventure until the Battle of the Five Armies, where the hobbit would get his chance at revenge.
