Trivia / The Full Monty

Go To

  • Completely Different Title:
    • In Russia, the film is known as Muzhskoy striptiz (Men's Striptease), which pushes the title into Exactly What It Says on the Tin territory. An alternative, and much more creative and punny, translation is Polnyi golyak, which can be understood as both Fully Naked and Completely Broke.
    • In Sweden, the film is called "Allt eller inget", meaning "Everything or Nothing".
    • In Finland, the film is called "Housut Pois", meaning "Trousers off"
  • Fake Brit: Robert Carlyle is Scottish doing an Oop North accent as Gaz.
  • One-Take Wonder: The cast allegedly agreed that all six of them would really do the "full monty" strip at the end in front of 50 extras, provided they had to do only one take.
  • Troubled Production: The production and shooting was also said to be very challenging, with Robert Carlyle saying, "The Full Monty was a tough shoot, it really really was. Horrible"
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Danny Boyle was asked to direct, but he declined, as he didn't find the story interesting.
    • Nicholas Lyndhurst was first choice for the role of Gaz, however Lyndurst turned role down saying "that it would have been too cold at that time of year to take your clothes off." Also considered were Hugh Grant and Rik Mayall.
    • Alan Rickman turned down the role of Gerald. Richard Griffiths was also considered.
    • At one point the studio thought the film would be a failure (not unreasonable, due to the Troubled Production) and considered releasing it Direct to Video.
    • The scene with Horse on the telephone was re-shot twice. The initial scene had an old woman overhearing, and the second version had a gang of girls on a night out overhearing. The third version - which is in the final film - has no one listening.
    • The famous "Hot Stuff" scene, in which the characters dance in the queue at the job centre, was originally going to be cut from the final production as it was "too unrealistic".
  • Working Title: Eggs, Beans & Chippendales.
