- Acting in the Dark: The extras running out of the movie theater weren’t told what kind of monster they were fleeing from.
- Completely Different Title:
- Denmark: The Killer from the Sky
- Finland: Dripping Death
- France: Planetary Danger
- Greece: Invasion from an Unknown Planet
- Italy: Deadly Fluid
- Japan: Absolute Crisis
- Sweden: The Danger from the Sky
- Turkey: Growing Monster
- The Danza: Steve McQueen plays...Steve Andrews.
- Dawson Casting: The "teens" are all obviously way too old. The 28-year-old Steve McQueen looks particularly out of place as a high school student who needs to sneak out of his parents' house. He could easily pass for a man in his 30s. It's not immediately apparent how old his character is supposed to be, making some of the early scenes very strange.
- Magnum Opus Dissonance: Despite it being by far his best-known work, director Irvin Yeaworth Jr. didn't think much of the film, and was far prouder of the series of independently-produced religious films he subsequently made with Billy Graham.
- Old Shame: Steve McQueen apparently did not think highly of this movie near the end of his life, and refused to discuss it in interviews.
- Referenced by...:
- B.O.B. is a Captain Ersatz expy of the Blob.
- The Appetizer from SpongeBob SquarePants also seems to be a reference to the Blob.
- Monster High's Create-a-Monster line featured a Blob girl with a translucent pink glittery body and a distinctly 1950s aesthetic.
- Working Title: The original title for the film was The Glob, hence why the characters never actually call it a "blob" in the story. But a Walt Kelly character already used the name, so it was changed. Other titles included Absorbine Senior, The Night of the Creeping Dead and The Glob That Girdled the Globe.
