• Blooper:
  • When Riker is congratulating to Picard on his promotion in his ready room, the camera is on Picard during Riker's line, but Riker's reflection is visible, and his lips aren't moving.
  • When Wesley is coaching Mordock through the test, you can see Mordock's screen jump as the animation it's playing loops back to the beginning.
• Dawson Casting:
  • 23-year-old Stephen Gregory plays Wesley's friend, Jake Kurland, who's supposed to be 16-17.
  • Estee Chandler is also 23, playing 17-year-old Oliana Mirren.
• Deleted Scene: A scene cut for time showed Wesley and the whole bridge crew celebrating his sixteenth birthday. The script named the location of the scene as "Deck 21 Forward Lounge", probably an early predecessor of Ten Forward. The scene also featured a short, humorous bit: Data asks Worf how Klingons celebrate their birthdays, and Worf replies that they do not. Data then asks him how he knows how old he is. Worf replies he doesn't and asks Data he knows, with Data replying that he has no age.
