  • Fandom Nod: The sequel has tons of references to the first game's community, ranging from visual references to actual lore.
    • One notable one is in Tina's character description: she's described as having been an unknown adventurer until the feat of using the eggplant to defeat Yama suddenly catapulted her into stardom. This is a reference to the status of a streamer named Bananasaurus Rex, who gained fame after being the first person to complete the eggplant challenge run solo, while using Tina as his character.
    • The wall art in the Udjat Eye chamber references 5 Let's Players who are known for playing HD; each of the creatures corresponds to the username of them.
    • Monty's name came from a fan nickname started by Northernlion.
    • A possible name for a shopkeeper is "Kinni", referring to Spelunky speedrunner Kinnijup.
    • As noted below on Throw It In!, the existence of the Ear shopkeeper in post-release versions of Spelunky is due in part to this.
    • Another notable one is that the game's credits has an entire thanks section dedicated to the community for HD, from prominent let's players to speedrunners and even a credit for everyone else not listed who enjoyed Spelunky HD. This trend continues in the Special Thanks section itself!
  • Throw It In!: In early versions of 2, one possible shopkeeper name was erroneously named "Ear", rather than his intended name of "Earl". Initially, this was fixed in 1.19.8c, but due to fans finding the typo endearing, Ear was later canonized as a shopkeeper name that can actually appear (alongside the "proper" name of Earl) in patch 1.20.4a, and shopkeepers named Ear even have unique graphics with larger ears.
