• Development Gag: The massive hype of Cop Drama having a singular "shit" remain uncensored, only for it to be a passive, half-mumbled comment ("You've got some shit on your lip.") was the original idea for this episode.
• Writer Revolt: The idea to use "shit" as many times as possible until it completely lost its shock came about out of Trey Parker and Matt Stone's annoyance with the Double Standard of gritty cop drama NYPD Blue being lauded for not censoring the phrase "Shit happens" while their show wasn't allowed to do the same just because it was a comedy.
