- Creator Couple: Tanya's parents are played by Cindy Pickett and Lyman Ward who were actually husband and wife at the time (having married after they played parents in Ferris Bueller's Day Off) but unfortunately divorced shortly after the movie came out.
- Dawson Casting: Mädchen Amick and Brian Krause were in their twenties playing teenagers.
- No Stunt Double: For the scene where Mary hoists Tanya over her shoulder, the stunt performer could not pick Mädchen Amick up all the way, so Alice Krige did the shot herself.
- Orphaned Reference:
- The script has references to Sherrif Ira being a recovering alcoholic. This gives some context to the "Cold draft" dialogue between Ira and Soames.
- In the script, when the police first investigate the Brady house, animal control captures the cats surrounding the house. This explains why cats are not around when Mary leaves to kidnap Tanya.
- Stillborn Franchise: Tabitha King, wife of Stephen King, wrote a treatment for a potential sequel that would revolve around a girls' basketball team. Stephen King himself was very enthusiastic about the idea but the studio weren't interested in doing a sequel.
- What Could Have Been: Rupert Wainwright was the first choice to direct, but Columbia were dissatisfied with some of the changes he made to the script (apparently he wanted to set the film IN SPACE). Stephen King had final director approval, and he personally chose Mick Garris.
