Trivia / Sherri Martel

Go To

  • Corpsing:
    • On WWF Superstars of Wrestling (1/6/90), you can clearly see Sherri and Jimmy start to lose it when Bobby Heenan starts to talk. ("Sweetheart, go get some new makeup.")
    • Her reaction to Booker T's famous gaffe, "We comin' for YOU, nigga!", is a smile that says, "It's O.K., sweetie, I've messed up hundreds of times on-camera."
  • Died During Production: In 2005, she declined an interview with the blog Insane Plan, citing a book she was in the middle of writing about her career. However, she agreed to return for the interview once the book was completed. She died before either could occur.
  • Doing It for the Art: In Card Subject to Change, Sherri mentions that the love and freedom she receives on the independent circuit is more fulfilling than working for the big companies.
  • Dye Hard: Dyed it black when she joined the big leagues. Dyed it blonde when she left them, too. (Her hair was light brown as the AWA/WWF Women's Champion.)
  • Promoted Fangirl: As a teenager she ran off to join the Ringling Brothers Circus, and later appealed to Grizzly Smith (father of Jake Roberts) to teach her how to be a wrestler.
  • Role-Ending Misdemeanor:
    • The first aired match between Luna Vachon and Sensational Sherri ended in a victory for Sherri. SummerSlam was right around the corner, and a Mix Tag team match between Tatanka w/Sensational Sherri vs Bam Bam Bigelow w/Luna Vachon was due for the PPV; however, with Luna's arm injury and Sherri's release from the WWF (with Luna soon to follow), the blowoff was nixed. WWF published a statement in the magazine stating that Sherri left the company to go back to school, but in reality she was fired for failing a drug test.
    • Her pill habit cancelled a long-term commitment to feud with Madusa in 2000.
  • She Also Did: Her managing career became the thing she is most remembered from, to the point almost nobody remembers that she used to be an active wrestler.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • In an AOW podcast with Mad Man Pondo, he claims he almost booked Martel, CM Punk, and Colt Cabana on Springer for a 'my best friend slept with my mom' episode.
    • In a shoot interview, Sherri claimed she turned down a contract offer to work in TNA in 2004. Supposedly, this would have led into a feud with Trinity, but Sherri had her hands full with a home renovation business she and her husband owned. However, other sources claimed it's because she did not want to deal with the physical and mental stress that caused her substance abuse problem. She would later make an appearance on Impact as a one-shot.
  • Written-In Infirmity: In the AWA. A bad back packed her off to a management role on a semi-permanent basis.
