Trivia / Rez

Go To

  • Dummied Out: The Rez beta used a mix of Underworld's Cowgirl and Born Slippy for Area 1. Area 2 used Aphex Twin's "Come to Daddy", Area 3 used Ken Ishii/Flare's "Extra", and area 4 used The Chemical Brothers' "Music Responce", however sources are not entirely clear on 2 through 4. (Area 5 was already using Mind Killer). Only a handful of samples made it to the final release.
  • Inspiration for the Work: The artbook for Infinite revealed that the pacing for the first level was inspired by Mizuguchi camping out in the Nevada desert. He heard some music and saw some lights in the distance, so he went to investigate. After some spent walking through the dark desert and seeing the lively gathering getting closer, he came upon the Burning Man festival. The first level's subdued opening is meant to replicate the experience of journeying through somewhere dark and quiet, gradually reaching somewhere bright and full of life.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: The Dreamcast and PS2 ports quickly fell victim to this, due to low sales discouraging further production of copies. Thankfully, it was rescued with the HD port on Xbox Live Arcade, which can be purchased digitally for 10 USD, as well as the Infinite ports on PS4 and Steam.
  • No Export for You:
    • The Dreamcast version never made it to North America.
    • While the PS2 port did get localized, the Trance Vibrator was sold only in Japan.
  • What Could Have Been: Various versions of the Dreamcast beta reveal that Rez was originally slated to have drastically different music, which was probably replaced due to licensing issues. See beta Area 1 here and beta Area 2 here.
