!!Trivia Tropes:
* ActorAllusion
** In the English version:
*** Ryan Haywood, who voices Peter Port, has played characters that have locked up animals before. The creators joked a lot about that when doing the scene involving Port having a caged Grimm in class.
*** Burnie and Joel return as two quirky cops like in the Pirating short.
*** During a TrainTopBattle, Dr. Oobleck yells out to decouple the caboose since it could kill them all. Oobleck's voice actor also voiced the character Caboose in another Rooster Teeth production, ''Machinima/RedVsBlue'', where there was a RunningGag about the amount of teammate kills he was responsible for.
*** Scarlet David is on the receiving end of a GroinAttack like his voice actor frequently is in other Rooster Teeth productions, and he's dressed like a pirate as nod to Gavin playing as "the Dandy" in past ''VideoGame/AssassinsCreed'' games on Creator/AchievementHunter.
*** Qrow calls both Ruby and Oscar "pipsqueak" in the Volume 3 and 4 finales respectively. Qrow is voiced by Creator/VicMignogna, who also voiced [[Manga/FullmetalAlchemist Edward Elric]], while Oscar is voiced by Creator/AaronDismuke, who also voiced Alphonse Elric. Ed cannot stand having his small size mocked by Al, so in the Volume 4 finale, "Ed" finally gets to turn the tables on "Al". Funny enough, Al's Japanese voice actor, Creator/RieKugimiya, is also voicing Oscar.
* AllStarCast: When ''RWBY'' first began, the cast consisted of the staff of Rooster Teeth. Volume 3 drew in a considerable amount of noted voice actors, with Creator/YuriLowenthal, Creator/VicMignogna, Creator/ElizabethMaxwell, Creator/LauraBailey, and Creator/TravisWillingham playing roles major and minor. Volume 4 began to really up the ante, bringing Creator/ChristopherSabat, Creator/JoshGrelle, Creator/AaronDismuke, Creator/JasonDouglas, Creator/JMichaelTatum, Creator/KentWilliams, Creator/TaraPlatt, Creator/MikeMcFarland, Creator/CheramiLeigh, and Creator/KaijiTang into the mix. Then Volume 5 followed up with Creator/MonicaRial.
* AluminumChristmasTrees: Yang's turkey boxing gloves have a [[https://youtu.be/kb2n3VErwks?t=1m3s raw chicken]] real world precedent.
* ApprovalOfGod:
** Monty was quite generous when it came to approval of fan works, and frequently shared cosplay photos, fanart, and [=AMVs=] that caught his eye on his Facebook page. He was also very supportive of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FmWA9-t6Io a Japanese fandub of the series]], and [[http://i.imgur.com/3dSobzB.png even gave tips on making OCs for fanfics]].
** A fan made [[https://soundcloud.com/the-gypsy-caravan-1/answer-to-me-taiyangs-theme-1 a theme song for Ruby and Yang's father, Taiyang]], which composer Jeff Williams left a comment stating he liked it.
** Reaction videos, as long as they come out after the public release, have gotten shout outs on Twitter from Miles Luna (VA of Jaune and Head Writer) and Barbara Dunkelman (VA of Yang and Creator/RoosterTeeth's Social Media Coordinator). [=MurderofBirds=] seems to be their favorite, as they sent him a gift package as well as [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qumbPCdcYoU a video of the whole production team reacting to his reaction of Episode 9 of Volume 3]] (contains spoilers).
* AscendedFanon:
** [[https://twitter.com/sadogre/status/458393566994128896 This is part of the character writing process.]]
** Team RWBY's shipping names are the code names for their two-person battle formations.
** Jaune attempts to use JNPR's shipping names for their code names, but his team [[TheyJustDontGetIt just didn't get it]].
** Team RNJR or Team JNRR for Ruby, Nora, Jaune and Ren? Ruby, Jaune and Ren are all voting for RNJR, settling the FNDM debate.
* AuthorExistenceFailure: After a severe allergic reaction left him comatose, Creator/MontyOum passed away on February 1st, 2015. It was initially uncertain whether or not ''RWBY'' would continue, until the creative team [[http://roosterteeth.com/members/journal/entry.php?id=3318124 confirmed]] they had access to Monty's notes. Volume 3 understandably aired later than usual in 2015, with the future of the show confirmed.
* BlackSheepHit: ''RWBY'' is something of an oddball in Creator/RoosterTeeth's lineup, being not specifically related to any game (aside from its own video game adaptations) and generally more serious than most of their work. It's also one of their most popular series, with a big-screen theatrical release and a video game adaptation of its own.
* CharacterBlog: Three quarters of Team RWBY have Twitters ([[https://twitter.com/RT_RubyRose Ruby]], [[https://twitter.com/RT_WeissSchnee Weiss]], [[https://twitter.com/RT_BlakeB Blake]]; Yang's was apparently terminated). However, none of the Twitters have been updated since summer 2013.
* TheDanza: Flynt Coal is voiced by Flynt Flossy.
* DemandOverload: The Volume 4 premiere caused Rooster Teeth's website to get so much traffic that the servers crashed. Not only that but some of the following episodes have also caused the site to crash. People ''really'' want to watch RWBY.
* DescendedCreator:
** Creator/MontyOum voiced Lie Ren in Volumes 1 and 2, and would have voiced Qrow if not for his unfortunate passing.
** Director Kerry Shawcross makes a very brief appearance near the end of Episode 9 making the noise he's known for on the Internet Box. He's also the voice of Neptune, one of Sun's teammates.
** Writer Miles Luna voices Jaune Arc.
** Joe Macdonald, who occupies several design positions in the staff, voices Yatsuhashi Daichi in Volume 3.
* FanCommunityNicknames: In keeping with the acronym-based team names that huntsmen students receive, ''RWBY'' does not have a fandom. It instead has The FNDM.
* FandomNod:
** In Season 2, Episode 4, Team RWBY uses fan-derived codenames for two-person attack combos (like "Ice Flower" for Ruby + Weiss or "Bumblebee" for Yang + Blake), some of which are humorous shipping names.
** Jaune attempts to implement this system for Team JNPR in Season 3, Episode 2, again using fandom pairing names. This time, his team objects that "Flower Power" (Ren + Nora) doesn't make much sense and Pyrrha questions his choice of "Arkos" for them (Jaune '''Ar'''c + Pyrrha Ni'''kos''').
** Season 4, Episode 1 has a RunningGag involving the ongoing fandom debate over a certain new team name. [[spoiler:Ren and Ruby want the name to be RNJR, while Nora and Jaune prefer JNRR though Jaune later concedes that Ren has a point with RNJR.]]
* FanNickname: There's enough that a new page had to be made [[FanNickname/{{RWBY}} here]], just to contain all of them.
* HarpoDoesSomethingFunny: During production, the voice cast was encouraged to come up with little ad-lib things that might fit various situations. Notable ones include:
-->'''Yang:''' ''[after a gratuitously overextended landing sequence]'' Nailed it. (Episode 6)\\
'''Ruby:''' ''[almost as an afterthought from realizing Blake[='=]s a cat faunus]'' She does like tuna a lot... (Episode 16)
** [[https://pbs.twimg.com/media/ByVQeImCUAASprP.png:large A picture of a old script that Miles once showed]] simply said "Monty actions ensues." for when Yang annihilated some Grimm after she found they displaced a hair from her head to obviously imply the specifics of the fight were up to Monty [[RuleOfCool to work his magic on]].
* IKnewIt:
** Pretty much everyone predicted Episode 15's reveal of Blake as a Faunus, and to a lesser extent Episode 16's clarification of her former membership in White Fang.
** After the release of the promotional material for Volume 2, namely, the group silhouette for Velvet's Team, it was pretty much a given that her team would somehow be named "Coffee."
** Penny being a robot.
** Many people speculated that Ruby and Yang are half-sisters, sharing a father, but fewer speculated that it was Yang's biological mother that she has been searching for in the Yellow trailer, and that Summer Rose, Qrow, the sisters' father, and Yang's mother were on the same team.
** The name of Yang's mother was ludicrously spot on: Raven Branwen.
** After the Volume 3 trailer, many fans suspected that the ElegantGothicLolita shown there was Neo in disguise, which was confirmed in the first episode of Volume 3.
** The majority of the fanbase predicted that Penny vs Pyrrha would happen during the tournament arc of Volume 3, and that [[spoiler:it would end with Penny in pieces]].
** Many people were able to figure out that Velvet [[spoiler:can copy weapons and styles with her camera]] from the first snapshot of Sun.
** Considering his ''Literature/TheWonderfulWizardOfOz'' character inspiration, nobody was surprised that Ironwood [[spoiler:is truly a tin man. He's got a cybernetic arm, and a large part of his body is made of metal.]]
** People were calling [[spoiler:Pyrrha dying]] since her introduction back in ''Volume One''.
** Remember the narrator from the first episode? Well, people were able to guess that A. She's a character, and B. [[spoiler:She's a villain. Say hello to Salem.]]
** [[spoiler:Quite a few fans predicted that Jaune would take up Pyrrha's equipment in some capacity following her death. He gets an updated set of equipment reforged from her gear at the end of Volume 4's first episode.]]
** Yang getting [[spoiler:a prosthetic limb from Ironwood]] is quite expected.
** More than a few fans predicted [[spoiler: Oscar]] having a connection to Ozpin, and so decided that his name must be [[spoiler:the given name of the Wizard of Oz]].
** Nobody was surprised when Whitley tuned out to be a [[spoiler:BitchInSheepsClothing, who wants to kick his sisters out of his father's will and be the sole heir to the SDC]].
* InkSuitActor: Yang was designed after her voice actress, Barbara Dunkelman, and she even uses her normal voice. Unintentionally, Arryn Zech also resembles Blake - just see [[https://i.pinimg.com/736x/96/32/19/963219a9a2ebb579700aecb404f9252d--rwby-voice-actors-rwby-cast.jpg Team RWBY as themselves if there's any doubt]].
* InMemoriam: The credit roll of Volume 3 ends with a dedication to Monty, showing his signature flanked by the messages "Monty Oum, 1981-2015" and "We love you, Monty".
* NamesTheSame:
** Australians who have a passing interest in the celebrity world may have noticed the name Ruby Rose and [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruby_Rose associated it with a real life person first]].
** This isn't the first series to involve a terrorist group named "White Fang" - there's also the group from the anime ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing''.
** Vol 3, Episode 3's title, "It's Brawl in the Family"? [[WebComic/BrawlInTheFamily Where have we heard that before?]]
** In Vol 3 Episode 5, we're introduced to Flynt Coal. There's a character with the same exact name over in ''WebAnimation/XRayAndVav''. Both characters are a reference to the same Rooster Teeth Minecraft meme.
* OfficialFanSubmittedContent:
** Creator/RoosterTeeth asked fans to design Velvet Scarlatina's battle uniform, with [[https://twitter.com/RWBYwiki/status/442459177491763201/photo/1 the winner's design]] being used in the show.
** At the end of the [[https://twitter.com/montyoum/status/406894139746172928 "official" original character naming rules]], Monty Oum indicated that at some point in the future there will be an original character contest with the winner(s) to be included in the show.
* OutlivedItsCreator: Creator/MontyOum died several months before Volume 3 premiered, but had left notes one the entire plot outline and ideas for the main characters as adults. In one livestream, the writers commented that the plot overview alone could be made into 20 volumes worth of story, but the length of the show will ultimately depend on how Miles and Kerry structure the content going forward.
* TheOtherDarrin:
** Starting with Volume 3, Ren is voiced by Monty Oum's brother, Neath Oum, due to Monty's death.
** Mercury Black is voiced by Creator/YuriLowenthal instead of J.J. Castillo from Volume 3 onward, due to Castillo leaving Rooster Teeth.
** Creator/MegumiToyoguchi, whose voiced Pyrrha Nikos in the Japanese dub, will be replaced by Creator/ShizukaIto in Volume 3 due to Megumi being pregnant and going on Maternity leave.
* PlayingAgainstType: Creator/JoshGrelle is predominantly cast in young protagonist roles who also lead a harem cast. Here, he does a 180 degree turn for the hammy, [[AxCrazy batshit insane]] villain Tyrian. According to his Twitter, he's enjoying this (in his own words) "psycho" role.
* PromotedFanboy:
** Jordan Scott, creator of the fan game ''[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_A116ynks0 RWBY: Grim Eclipse]]'' got hired by Rooster Teeth to make an official game.
** NDGO were originally a team of OCs and cosplayers of them on Tumblr, and have since been granted an in-universe team as thanks for their sponsorship.
** Yssa Badiola, an animator who worked on WebVideo/XRayAndVav, is a huge fan of RWBY and now, she voices Ciel Soleil in Volume 3.
** "[[https://twitter.com/mojojoj27827860 Mojojoj]]", a popular RWBY fan artist known for his incredibly quick work, is a conceptional artist for the new ''RWBY Chibi''.
** The animator for the SLVR fan trailers, was hired by Rooster Teeth (however, he works for Death Battles, not RWBY)
** Bach Do, a Vietnamese fanartist who goes by the moniker "dishwasher1910" on DeviantArt, was taken on as a concept artist for Rooster Teeth's new mecha show "gen:Lock". This was chiefly due, in Gray Haddock's words, to his drawings of the RWBY cast in mecha-like situations.
** Here's one that goes both ways: ''Franchise/BlazBlue'' director Toshimichi Mori is a fan of RWBY, and has long expressed a desire to make a game based on the show. At the same time, Monty had expressed his love for ''[=BlazBlue=]''. Both works would eventually crossover as part of ''VideoGame/BlazBlueCrossTagBattle''.
* RealitySubtext: Volume 3 starts with Ruby talking to her mother's grave. Monty Oum [[AuthorExistenceFailure had passed away]] before the start of the volume, so Ruby talking also acts as the crew of Rooster Teeth talking to Monty. [[spoiler: At the end of Volume three, after several deaths in the show, a slow song mourning the loss of someone who changed the lives of those around them plays over the credits, which end InMemoriam to Monty.]] "Let's Just Live" from the Volume 4 soundtrack is also a tribute to Monty [[spoiler: while applying to the character deaths as well.]]
* TheRedStapler: The instant people got a good look at Jaune's hoodie in "The Next Step", pretty much everyone wanted one. [[{{Defictionalization}} It is now available at the RT store.]]
* RelationshipVoiceActor:
** In the original English:
*** Sun is voiced by Lindsay Tuggey (Ruby's voice actress)'s husband.
*** Also, "Russel Thrush + Emerald forever".[[note]][[HarsherInHindsight Well, less so now...]][[/note]]
*** Junior and Velvet's voice actors are married.
*** Sun, Scarlet, Ruby, Junior and Professor Port are all part of Creator/AchievementHunter.
*** Yang and Nolan Porfirio's voice actors are dating.
*** Neon and Scarlet's voice actors are dating.
*** Amber and the Atlas Ship Captain's respective [[Creator/LauraBailey voice]] [[Creator/TravisWillingham actors]] are married.
*** Coco and Taiyang are engaged.
*** The (second in the case of the former) voice actors for [[Creator/YuriLowenthal Mercury]] and Blake's mother, [[Creator/TaraPlatt Kali]], are married.
*** Dr. Watts and Jacques Schnee are both members of the ''Franchise/DragonBall'' English dub cast.
*** Qrow and Oscar are the [[Anime/FullmetalAlchemist original]] [[Manga/FullmetalAlchemist Elric brothers]].
** For the Japanese dub:
*** Yang's and Nora's [=VAs=] also voices Ryuko & Mako in ''Anime/KillLaKill.'' They're also part of the ''Franchise/PrettyCure'' series, but different entries.
*** Also on the ''Pretty Cure'' angle is that both of Pyrrha's [=VAs=] and Blake have voiced characters there, but, again, different entries.
*** In ''VideoGame/GuiltyGear'', Nora and Penny are Valentine Sisters.
*** In ''Franchise/BlazBlue'', Ruby and Adam are Mai Natsume and Hazama/Yuuki Terumi. This is even funnier as both have similar personalities, and even [[BuffySpeak more funnier]] now that Ruby is making a crossover appearance in ''VideoGame/BlazBlueCrossTagBattle''.
*** Both Creator/YuShimamura (Blake) and Masafumi Kimura (her father Ghira) worked together in the Japanese dub of ''Film/{{Deadpool}}'' film as Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Colossus respectively. Hilariously enough, Colossus is the mentor figure for Negasonic in the film.
* RecycledScript: A MagnificentBastard villain [[HeroWithBadPublicity making a team of heroes look bad]] while [[VillainWithGoodPublicity making one of their own look good and innocent]] in the eyes of the public to hide nefarious plans to harm the city? Is that Volume 3's second half or ''WebAnimation/XRayAndVav''[='s=] Season 2 second half?
* StarMakingRole: For Lindsay Jones (Ruby) Barbara Dunkelman (Yang; as an actress), Kara Eberle (Weiss), Arryn Zech (Blake), Creator/MichaelJones (Sun; as an actor) and Creator/JessicaNigri (Cinder; as a voice actress)
* TeasingCreator:
** Monty was a [[http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2013/312/2/e/rwby___answers_only_lead_to_more_questions_____by_jkphantom9-d6thgdh.jpg mild example.]]
** With the news that Velvet would play a bigger role in Volume 2, fans excitedly looked forward to finding out what her weapon and fighting style looked like. Come the Vol.2 finale, it seemed we were about to find out...only for Coco to completely steal the show instead. [[spoiler:Velvet finally reveals it in Volume 3, Episode 11 "Heroes and Monsters".]]
** [[spoiler: In "Heroes and Monsters", after Adam cuts Yang's arm off and moves in for the kill, Blake shields Yang with her body. Adam mutters on why [[WhyDidYouMakeMeHitYou "Blake must hurt him"]] and proceeds to ''decapitate'' her. Turns out it was [[FlashStep just an illusion]], but many viewers at this scene experienced a near heart attack.]]
** The previews of the Volume 3 and 4 finales were otherwise normal, except that the finale episodes were unusually long, being over 26 minutes. The preview thumbnails were posted the night before the release dates for sponsors, so ''everyone'' had to wait in anticipation for the coming morning.
** The musicians haven't been entirely idle either. The soundtrack for Volume 4 includes both "Like Morning Follows Night," a song that supports the Blake-Sun pairing, and "Bmblb," which couldn't be about anything ''but'' the [[LesYay Blake-Yang]] pairing. Much ShipToShipCombat and FanArt ensued. (Neither pairing is actually confirmed.)
* TrollingCreator: Miles and Kerry always seem to get the biggest laugh out of viewer outrage and misery when bad things happen to characters. And when told the Volume 3 finale would air on Valentine's Day during a livestream, Miles burst into laughter, [[spoiler: given that the Arkos ship was going to get nuked that day]], and later tweeted "Happy Valentine's Day!" when announcing the season finale's release, [[spoiler: knowing that the day was going to be anything but happy]]. And in the [=AfterBuzz=] stream, he broke out into a grin when the hosts speculated about Jaune [[spoiler: following Pyrrha into death]], sending many fans into a panic.
** A number of songs were released during season 4 that had titles and lyrics talking about [[ShipperOnDeck relationships between some characters]]. As of then, none of them were necessarily canon, but one described Blake/Sun, a pretty contentious pairing on it's own, and on top of that, Blake/Yang was ''also'' given a song.
* TroubledProduction: Monty Oum's death delayed the production of Volume 3 by two months, leading to Rooster Teeth to only air a trailer at RTX 2015 instead of the first episode.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Professor Ozpin was originally supposed to be voiced by Creator/MontyOum himself, but he decided that he wasn't the right fit. Matt Hullum (the voice of Sarge from ''Machinima/RedVsBlue'') also auditioned for the part.
*** Speaking of Monty, he would have voiced Qrow Branwen had he not passed away. The role instead went to Creator/VicMignogna.
** Creator/GavinFree was originally slated to voice Junior.
** Many scrapped ideas regarding character design were shown on the panels at RTX 2013:
*** Ruby's hair was originally going to be gray, because Monty wanted to evoke a kind of wolf-like appearance for her. He mentioned later that Ruby's current hairstyle still looks kinda 'wolfy'. Her cape was also originally going to have a muff-like thing around her neck, but animation issues restricted that.
*** Both Ozpin and Glynda were going to have more cape elements in their design, but they were scrapped for the same reason as Ruby's cape-muff.
*** Roman Torchwick's early designs had a striped scarf.
*** Team RWBY wasn't supposed to have hair colors that matched their theme colors, and everyone but Yang was a brunette. So, Yang was the only one who ended up keeping her original hair color.
*** Melanie and Miltia are built off [[https://twitter.com/montyoum/status/349795637824466944/photo/1 early designs for Ruby and Weiss.]]
** Jaune's original line after Ruby killed the Nevermore was going to be a quiet, awestruck, "[[BondOneLiner Bye bye, birdy.]]"
** Professor Oobleck was originally going to be a boring, lethargic teacher.
** Glynda originally had an [[http://hazleapricot.tumblr.com/post/65911774316/have-you-ever-thought-about-giving-blake-an-accent Australian accent.]]
** By the original plans, Jaune was actually on the right track in the cave in Players and Pieces, because the relics were going to be inside assorted Grimm, including the Deathstalker stinger.
** Nora was originally meant to have a sash that wrapped around her waist, and ended in two long tails. Monty scrapped the idea because he thought it would be too hard to animate.
** [[http://roosterteeth.com/archive/?id=8850&v=comments RWBY Volume 2: Production Diary 1]] describes Velvet as simply having been created for the sole purpose for demonstrating the discrimination Faunus face, but fan response to her was so positive that she was further written into the story for Volume 2.
--->'''Kerry:''' It's a good thing we didn't go-we almost went with a dude with an elephant trunk. Probably wouldn't have turned out--\\
'''Miles and Kerry''': Not as good.
** Early art for Ren implies that he was originally intended to be a more androgynous or even female character wielding a sword.
** Early art for Blake gave her heterochromia and two differently colored cat ears.
** Monty's earliest doodles of Yang, Pyrrha and Weiss show some minor differences.
*** Yang's pants and some highlights of her clothes were yellow and she had a different style belt. Her promotional art still has her skirt with a more pleated/segmented look as well.
*** Pyrrha had some armor covering her sash instead of a belt, extra armor on one leg, and no tiara or ponytail.
*** Weiss' clothes weren't as detailed, her jacket lacked it's red collar, is missing her black undershirt and had a different ponytail. There was also a few early designs for her snowflake emblem.
** Different production art that was released showed that Weiss originally had a beauty mark instead of a scar, and that Myrtenaster's hilt was built more like a complete gun rather than just the revolver mechanism.
** Something that mistakenly made it into the White trailer in a few shots was that the Dust in the mechanism in Myrtenaster was all red, as opposed to the multicolored seen in the series proper. Each would still have had different properties, but Monty initially disliked the idea of having a rainbow used on the design before deciding that it would make things clearer overall.
** Cinder at one point had incredibly long, flowing sleeves similar to Weiss.
** Penny's curbstomp of the White Fang forces, where she clearly shows signs of being a robot (weapon popping out of her back, inhuman strength even by the standards of what had been shown, firing energy beams in a very mechanical fashion), was not intended to be in Episode 16, and was added by Monty without prior knowledge. This is clear in the DVD commentary, where Miles Luna makes it clear he had intended Penny stopping the van to be the first indication of Penny's true power and identity.
** During Mercury and Emerald's EstablishingCharacterMoment of their assassination of Tukson, the crew considered adding an extra shot of some of Tukson's blood on a wall.
** During ''Best Day Ever'', the first food Yang caught was going to be a cherry with stem, then she reveals the stem with a knot tied in it (you can see her 'hold small object' hand pose when she does the 'with a Yang' pun), but they decided that was a hair too risque.
** Ren originally grabbed a pair of cucumbers during the food fight, but they were changed to leeks after a lot of 'is he hitting Yang with a pair of green dicks?' reactions.
** Russel Thrush was originally [[Creator/RussellCrowe Russel Crow]].
--->'''Monty:''' I had to slap that one out of the air.
** CRDL was originally pronounced something like 'Crow'.
** Starting with Season 3, we can only wonder what the series might have been like had Monty Oum lived to keep working on it. He was reportedly far more involved in the animation than the writing, but given [[RuleOfCool what kind of show this is]], that's a major creative loss.
** Velvet's Hunter outfit's design had several options, ranging from a hood with holes to let her ears through, a lengthy raincoat plus a variant with rolled coat tails, and even a back ribbon that was considered for Nora's outfit. Most of these designs were scrapped for a simplistic model.
** There was going to be a Nora and Pyrrha vs Sun and Neptune fight during the Vytal Festival Tournament, but it was cut do to not having any real relevance to the plot and being short on time.
** Warner Bros. Japan asked Burnie Burns to include a HotSpringsEpisode in the future. Burnie staunchly refused due to Ruby's age.
** Crescent Rose was originally ''much'' more sniper-like, looking almost like a Barret Sniper rifle with a scythe blade added onto it.
* TheWikiRule: [[http://rwby.wikia.com/wiki/RWBY_Wiki RWBY Wiki]].
* WordOfStPaul: The official manga is being written by a Japanese author and has detailed several stories that did not happen in the main series. [[SchrodingersCanon The show writers have declared that the manga can be considered canon unless they say otherwise]], at least for the moment. They have also since used a couple of ideas the manga showed first, notably the existence of possessor-Grimm that can take control of inanimate objects - however, the volume 4 commentary revealed that possession Grimm were planned as early as the White trailer, and the one that appears in volume 4's first episode was originally supposed to appear during volume 1. As the writers of the show ''did'' work with Shirow Miwa to a degree for the manga, the apparent 'early' appearance of these Grimm was a result of the manga adaptation of the White trailer adding dialogue and exposition.
* WordOfGod:
** Dust is not magic. It serves the exact same artistic and narrative role, by the staff's own admission, but don't call it magic. Magic is what stage magicians do, and Dust is therefore not magic. [[spoiler:This is because magic does exist, but has nothing to do with Dust.]]
** Monty once trolled this very wiki's WMG page with various confirmations and denials. He seemed very fond of the Nora mafia princess theory.
** Though many had assumed that the Faunus were inspired by the many animal characters that exist in anime, Monty Oum revealed that they actually stem from his love of the old Hanna-Barbera cartoon ''WesternAnimation/{{Snagglepuss}}''. (This is probably a case of TrollingCreator).
** Monty's Website/{{Twitter}} responses made it clear that Yang and Ruby are half-sisters that share a father, and confirmed that Summer Rose is Ruby's mother. Summer was also stated to definitely be dead, not just missing.
** A livestream done by the cast and crew a day before the Volume 3 finale confirmed that [[spoiler:Roman Torchwick died]] in "Heroes and Monsters".
** A set of tweets from Jen Brown (Pyrrha's VA) revealed that [[spoiler: Pyrrha was always meant to have been killed as part of Monty's plans]].
** Miles and Kerry confirmed in during the [=AfterBuzz=] livestream that, despite looking similar, [[spoiler:Salem]] is not [[spoiler:the original Winter Maiden]]. It was just a coincidence.
** Contrary to popular belief about the RWBY Bumblebee/Blacksun "shipping" songs in the soundtrack, Jeff has stated in an [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SD9RrQ18jqo&feature=youtu.be interview in January]] that the songs on the soundtrack are not literal representations of aspects of the show, just song ideas he had and then edited to fit RWBY. Similar examples are "Cold"[[note]]primarily about Creator/MontyOum's death, not [[spoiler:Pyrrha's]], though the extended version of the song makes it much more clear[[/note]] and "Home"[[note]]about him and his daughter[[/note]].
* WriteWhatYouKnow: Weiss uses fencing because Monty himself studied it.

----
!!General Trivia:
* If one goes by Ironwood's concept art saying he is 6'3", his revolver appears to have a barrel length of about 13 inches, which is larger than [[HandCannon the largest sized barrel of the Smith & Wesson Model 500 (10.5 inches), the largest production revolver in Real life]]. The full length of the revolver, from tip of the barrel to the end of its grip is 2'1.5", or 23.5 inches long, which puts Ironwood's revolver on the same size, if not larger, as the Pfeifer Zeliska revolver, which is the largest revolver in RealLife. Going by his model's ''actual'' height of 6'6", his revolver is instead about four inches larger all-around.
* The name "Faunus" is derived from Faunus, the Roman god of forests, wild, and nature. He is also the Roman equivalent to the Greek god Pan. Additionally, the god Faunus is associated with Satyrs, which incidentally have a less human morphology than the Faunus people shown in the show.
* On a Facebook Q&A, Miles and Kerry broke down the breeding genetics of Faunus. A later World of Remnant episode called ''Faunus'' covers the subject, but Qrow's in-character description differs from the Q&A explanations in the following ways:
** Both agree that if two Faunus of the same phenotype breed (e.g. two Dog Faunus), their child will also be of the same species.
** The Q&A states that if a Faunus and a human breed, their child will either be a Faunus or a Human. However, the episode implies that when a human and Faunus have a child, there might be more chance of the child being Faunus than human, but that the Faunus trait might take a long time to express, leaving the parents uncertain for a while as to whether their child is human or Faunus, and even what type of Faunus the child may be.
** The Q&A states that two Faunus of different types breed (e.g. a Dog Faunus and a Cat Faunus), their child will have a chance of being a random type (e.g., a Snake Faunus). While the episode agrees with this, it adds an implication that this rule may also apply to a Faunus child born from a Human/Faunus pairing.
* It was said in a Volume 3 livestream that every Faunus has only one animal trait.
* Ruby, Nora, and Jaune own an object in sale at the Rooster Teeth store Ruby's Rose Pajama Pants, Nora's "boop" t-shirt, and Jaune's Pumpkin Pete hoodie. Pyrrha continues this trend with her Pumpkin Pete's cereal being made available as a FYE exclusive foodstuff.
