  • Acting for Two:
    • Jessica DiCicco (Hissy), Tom Kenny (ARF), and Harland Williams (Bob) voice many incidental characters in the series.
    • Jeff Bennett voices Cagey the hamster, Jonathan the seagull, Titus the leopard, Crumpet the royal dog, Chloe's dad, the Narwahl, and Tako.
    • Tress MacNeille voices Bob's mother and the Queen Of England.
    • Grey DeLisle Griffin voices Funny Bunny and Nellie the parrot.
    • Tara Strong voices Sunny, Shannon, and Chloe's mom.
    • In the Hebrew dub, Alona Alexander voices Chloe and Cupcake.
    • Giselle Eisenberg and Dan Bakkedahl previously worked together on Life in Pieces
  • Actor-Shared Background: "The Latke Kerfuffle" shows that Chloe's family celebrates Hanukkah, a Jewish holiday. Chloe's mother is voiced by Tara Strong, who has a Jewish background.
  • Adored by the Network:
    • The show started with two Fridays with two premieres each. It then got a regular weekday slot not long after.
    • It was renewed for a second season mere months after its premiere.
    • In September 2018, it was renewed for a third season. Keep in mind that the second season hadn't even started yet when the announcement was made.
    • A few weeks before season 4 came out, the show was renewed for season 5, making it the second Disney Junior show in history to go beyond four seasons after Doc McStuffins.
  • All-Star Cast: The show boasts an impressive collection of voice actors. We have Isaac Ryan Brown and Sam Lavagnino as Bingo and Rolly, creator Harland Williams as Bob, Jessica DiCicco as Hissy, and Tom Kenny as ARF. The supporting cast includes Jeff Bennett, Tara Strong, Kevin Michael Richardson, Cheri Oteri, Gary Anthony Williams, and more.
  • Casting Gag: The baseball announcer shown in "Take Me Out To The Pug Game" is voiced by Bob Uecker, a real-life baseball announcer.
  • Children Voicing Children: Bingo and Rolly are voiced by actual children. Characters like Chloe, Keia, Lollie, and a bunch of incidental characters are also voiced by child actors.
  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer: The description for "Pups In The Apple" states that Bob made the Apple Pie for the Playcare Bake Sale, when he actually made it for a Dinner Party at Ana's.
  • Creator's Oddball: Comedian Harland Williams created this series. While it's not uncommon for comedians to create cartoons (and for said comedians to voice in them), a Disney Junior show is a bit different from the usual fare they're known for, which usually skews at least a bit older.
    • Shiloh Nelson, who had previously only starred in live-action projects, made her voice-over debut as Keia
  • Dawson Casting: Hissy is implied to be slightly older than the pups, yet Jessica DiCicco is in her 40, as opposed to Bingo and Rolly, who are voiced by actual children.
  • Descended Creator:
    • Harland Williams voices Bob, their owner.
    • The flight attendant in "Bob Loves Mona" is voiced by series writer Jessica Carleton.
  • Distanced from Current Events: In March 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, reruns of the episode ''Land Of The Rising Pup/Arf-Choo! " and " Speedy As A Cheetah/The Soup Search " were temporarily pulled due to the latter segment of the former episode dealing with ARF catching a virus, and the latter segment of the latter episode dealing with Bob contracting a cold. Reruns of said episodes later returned in May of that same year.
  • Dueling Shows: With the smash-hit TV Ontario-produced series PAW Patrol, another preschool show involving the adventures of dogs in a city. While Puppy Dog Pals enjoys good ratings and the merchandise sells well, it's nowhere near as big as PAW Patrol is yet.
  • Fake American: Canadian Harland Williams voices American-accented Bob.
  • Fake Brit:
    • Jeff Bennett as Crumpet the dog.
  • Fake Nationality: Chloe, who is Chinese-Jewish-American, is voiced by Emma Shannon, who is white.
  • Irony as She Is Cast: Mrs. Claus's first voice actress, Wendi Mc Lendon Covey, is Jewish.
  • Meaningful Release Date: The show's premiere date was announced on March 23, 2017, which is National Puppy Day.
  • Missing Episode: "Search and Rescue"
  • Playing Against Type: Steven Weber typically voices villains like Norman Osborn, Jerk with a Heart of Gold characters like George Stacy, or sarcastic, stoic characters like Alfred Pennyworth. Here, he voices Gary the gecko, who's both nice and laid back.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Due to Isaac Ryan Brown and Sam Lavagnino going through puberty, Bingo and Rolly will now be voiced by EJ Williams and Gracen Newson starting in season 4.
    • In season 4, Mrs. Claus is voiced by Grey DeLisle Griffin rather than Wendi McLendon Covey.
    • Crandall The Crab was voiced by Julian Edwards in "Seen Any Seashells" and Nick A. Fisher in "Runaway Wedding Ring".
  • Out of Holiday Episode:
    • "Yay, Earth Day!", an Earth Day episode, aired on May 17, 2019. This is normally averted since most holiday episodes have premiered in their respective months or seasons.
    • "Summer Splash Bash" premiered on the northern hemisphere's fourth-to-last day of summer.
  • Out of Order:
    • "A Very Pug Christmas" aired before "Fetch That Fish". The latter introduced Olivia while the gang already knew her in the former.
    • "Slumber Paw-ty" aired before "Adopt-a-Palooza". The latter introduced Lollie and Ana while Bingo, Rolly, Bob, and the gang already know them in the former.
  • Production Posse: The show reunites several crew members from Pound Puppies (2010). Common crew members includes voice director Alyson Bosch, writers Joe Ansolabhere and Jean Ansolabhere, and voice actors Jessica DiCicco, Alanna Ubach, Jeff Bennett, Kevin Michael Richardson, Tara Strong, Grey DeLisle Griffin, and Yvette Nicole Brown.
  • Promoted Fanboy: Gracen Newton was a fan of the show before replacing Sam Lavangino as Rolly in Season 4
  • Quarter Hour Short: While the series usually uses the Two Shorts format, some episodes starting in March 2018 have premiered as one short by itself with an opening and closing.
  • Series Hiatus: Although the show usually has 1-3 new episodes a month, there have been 5 hiatuses so far, with the first lasting from December 1, 2017 to February 23, 2018, the second lasting from March 30, 2018 to July 6, 2018, the third lasting from July 27, 2018 to October 12, 2018 (in between the Season 1 finale and the Season 2 premiere), the fourth lasting from November 30, 2018 to January 18, 2019, and the fifth lasting from March 25, 2022 to June 10, 2022.
  • Similarly Named Works:
  • Spoiled by the Merchandise: Toys of Keia were sold long before she made her television debut.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: The Song In The Episode "Welcome To Puppy Playdate" sounds very similar to "Nothing But A Good Time" by Poison
  • Screwed by the Network: After several years of being adored, the show suffered this fate midway through Season 4, with the show's airings on the 24/7 channel being greatly reduced in late July 2021. However, it fares much better than most shows that [[Western Animation/TOTS fell victim to this trope]] due to having a presence on both the block and channel, as well as being the only first-run pre-2021 show to remain on the block.
  • Schedule Slip: Starting in Season 4, the show only has one new episode a month, with the exception of January and November 2021 when 2 episodes premiered.
  • Those Two Guys:
    • Bingo and Rolly are voiced by Isaac Ryan Brown and Sam Lavagnino, the respective voices behind Haruna and Blodger on Miles from Tomorrowland.
    • Production example: Dean Batali (the story editor) and Trevor Wall (a supervising director) were previously in their respective positions on Sabrina: Secrets of a Teenage Witch.
    • ARF is voiced by Tom Kenny, while his wife Jill Talley voices Cupcake.
    • Andy Bean (the musical composer) and Jack McBrayer (voice of Hedgie the hedgehog) worked together on Wander over Yonder
  • Unisex Series, Gendered Merchandise: Because the two leads are male, much of the merchandise is aimed at boys.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Word of God is that Keia was originally going to be named Tikka.
  • Working Title: The pilot for the show was called "Puppy Dog Tails", which has an obligatory dog tail pun.
  • Written by Cast Member: The pilot episode, "Hawaii Pug-Oh", was written by Harland Williams, the creator of the show and the voice of Bob.
