Trivia / Project Zomboid

Go To

  • Development Hell: The game has been in development since 2011, making it a decade and counting, with no full release in sight.
  • Official Fan-Submitted Content: In later releases, you'll find that the environment slowly changes as the weeks and months of neglect pass, with grass overgrowing and pavement falling apart. This feature was originally a popular fan mod called "Erosion", which the developers liked enough to officially fold into the base game. Some other features were also borrowed from the mod community, such as being able to randomize or save your character build.
  • Schedule Slip: The general rule of thumb is that an update will never be released on the day it's scheduled to be released on, and might take anywhere from weeks to months more than originally intended.
  • Urban Legend of Zelda: With the frequently spotty or simply completely lacking documentation, urban legends were bound to spring up.
    • Perhaps the most common example is "it's possible to recover from the Knox Infection", which has never been the case. That was either a regular infection or the hypochondriac trait.
    • To a lesser extent, those playing multiplayer in the 41.65 release may consider sledgehammers to be an urban legend. Due to a mistake with spawning logic, sledgehammers are extremely rare in multiplayer, to the point you're more likely to find them by hunting for a roadworks "mini-story" rather than in a hardware store like you'd expect. This has led to memes about everyone in the state taking their sledgehammers and throwing them into the nearest lake/river/etc. at the first sign of the apocalypse.
  • Write What You Know: The dev team was originally group of The Sims modders, which is why the game first and foremost focuses on day-to-day activities and simulation right from the first build, rather than anything else. Detractors also point out this is the reason why they continuously prioritise "fluff" content and meaningless in the long run flavour activities, postponing the "big" gameplay elements, like NPCs.
