Trivia / Princeless

Go To

  • Acclaimed Flop: The series is both Eisner nominated comic and a Glyph Award winner. However, by the creators' own admission, the series has never been much of a cash cow.
  • Bonus Material: Several side story compilations have been released so far: Short Stories for Warrior Women #1, Short Stories for Warrior Women #2, Tales of the Family Ashe, and Tales of Girls who Rock.
  • Creator Backlash: Jeremy Whitley and Emily C. Martin have both been vocal in their distaste for how Action Lab Comics mistreats creators and are currently part of a class action lawsuit against the company. In late 2022, when Action Lab Comics announced that they were releasing what would have been the first issue of Volume Ten for Free Comic Book Day 2023, the two slammed the publisher for releasing their work without having paid them or the rest of the creative team and urged fans not to pick it up.
  • Screwed by the Network: Action Lab Comics doesn't pay their writers and artists until a book has been completed and approved to print by the publisher. This means that Action Lab can drag their feet on releasing fully completed issues and volumes in order to hold off paying the comic's creative team for months and years. They even pulled Princeless and Raven: The Pirate Princess issues off of Comixology specifically to avoid having to pay what they owe. Due to this, Jeremy Whitley has publicly criticized and disavowed Action Lab and the future of the series remains uncertain.
  • Shelved for Release: Volume 10 of the main comic is deep into production but has no date of release due to the payment issues with Action Lab. Volume 9 of Raven: Pirate Princess has been finished and another eight issues have been fully scripted, but the release and any further production on them have been stalled for the same reason.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Raven was originally supposed to be a one-shot character who would appear for only eight pages, but Jeremy Whitley thought she had potential and decided to give the character her own arc and her own spin off book.
    • The original plans for Volume 9 onward was that it would cease as a monthly comic and be released as graphic novels only. However, then it was decided to make the ongoing a bi-weekly digital series while publishing the graphic novel as a physical release. But then Action Lab decided to meddle with the planned release to avoid paying the creative team, resulting in the already released digital comics being taken down for a few months before being put back up without any current dates for a physical release.
  • Write Who You Know: Jeremy Whitley himself is white and male, but Adrienne is modeled after his wife and sister-in-law. Both are black, and the latter is named Adrienne.
