• Dueling Movies: This film and Paul Blart: Mall Cop, created completely independently, as most dueling films are.
• Executive Meddling: A positive example. Writer/Director Jody Hill's original intention was for Ronnie to actually date rape Brandi through and through. Hill caved in to studio pressure to have Brandi say something. "Why are you stopping, motherfucker?" made this one of the funniest scenes in the movie.
• Playing Against Type: While Seth Rogen has played jerks before, he earned his fame playing likable schlubs. Many viewers expected Ronnie to be along a similar line, rather than the seriously disturbed man that he is.
• Vindicated by Cable: The movie was not marketed properly before release (with advertising hyping it as the R-rated Paul Blart, rather than the Taxi Driver-inspired extreme Black Comedy it was), and critical reception at the time was mixed, ranging from horror to confusion. Years later, the film finally started to gain a cult following and has since garnered a number of positive appraisals from writers.
