• Fake Russian: Although billed as being from Russia, Nikolai Volkoff was actually from Yugoslavia. Volkoff explained it in Freddie Blassie's autobiography, Listen You Pencil Neck Geeks... He is Croatian of Russo-Italian descent. There were already several Italian wrestlers in the WWWF in the 1970s and Croatians weren't known as separate from Yugoslavians as a whole. He had also done a Russian gimmick in the American Wrestling Association as Boris Bresnikov.
