- California Doubling: Applied even before filming moved to Vancouver for the second season. When it was shot in California, the San Francisco-set series was shot in San Diego.
- The Other Darrin: Raleigh's actor was replaced for the second season. Other characters who were replaced are actually different characters but Raleigh is still just Raleigh.
- Playing Against Type: In a really bizarre moment, David Hasselhoff shows up at the end of the pilot as the mastermind of the illegal weapons sale... for all of fifteen seconds before being thrown out a window, after which Johnny delivers a Bond One-Liner (“Gee, life’s a real hassle, isn’t it?”) to no one in particular. So, yeah, that happened.
- Stunt Casting: The show seemed to try to invoke this by occasionally having celebrities makes cameos, all of which were usually bizarre. Patrick Macnee also showed up in a recurring role as Johnny’s psychologist.
