- Acting for Two: The same actor plays Dr. Madden and Dr. Fine. Inexplicably Identical Individuals, because the two doctors are not only identical, but identical strangers—and no one in the cast takes any notice of their resemblance.
- Cut Song: So, so many. Including: "Perfect" which was replaced with "Everything Else", "Costco" was just cut all together (though it got a subtle mention in "Better than Before"), "Getting Better" which was rewritten into "Better than Before", "Feeling Electric" was replaced with "Wish I Were Here", and "Growing Up Unstable" was just cut out all together as well.
- Dawson Casting: Played straight with Aaron Tveit, who was 25 playing an 18 year old, and Adam Chanler-Berat who was 22, and playing a 17 year old.
- Orphaned Reference: The Off-Broadway version had a song called "Costco", where Diana has a manic episode while shopping, and during the song "Getting Better", Natalie brings up a photo from the event. "Costco" was later cut, however Natalie's reference to it was still kept when "Getting Better" was rewritten into "Better than Before".
