Trivia / Mrs. Brown's Boys

Go To

  • California Doubling: Set in Dublin, but was shot in a studio in Scotland.
  • Cast Incest: Many of the main cast members are related by blood or marriage to Brendan O'Carroll, and not always in the same way in which their characters are related to Mrs. Brown. Jennifer Gibney, Brendan O'Carroll's wife, plays Mrs. Brown's daughter Cathy. Ellish O'Carroll, who plays Winnie McGoogan, is Brendan's sister. Fiona O'Carroll, Brendan's daughter, plays Mrs. Brown's daughter-in-law Maria, while Fiona's husband, Martin Delany, plays Mrs. Brown's son Trevor, and Maria's husband Dermot is played by Paddy Houlihan, lifelong best friend of Brendan's son Danny, who plays Buster Brady, and whose wife, Amanda Woods, plays Mark's wife Betty; Danny and Amanda's son Jamie plays Mark and Betty's son Bono.note  If that's not confusing enough, Winnie McGoogan's daughter Sharon is played by Jennifer Gibney's sister Fiona.
  • The Danza: Rory's first actor was also named Rory. This is no longer true now Rory has been recast.
  • Harpo Does Something Funny: O'Carroll frequently goes off script and plays around to elicit bigger laughs from the Studio Audience. Other cast members are seen trying (to varying success) to hide their corpsing in the background or on the edges of the screen.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Maria's mother Hilary was recast between Series 1 and the first Christmas special.
    • As of the 2017 Christmas Special, Rory is now played by a new actor. This is explained in show that he underwent plastic surgery.
  • Real-Life Relative: O'Connor's daughter plays one of his daughters-in-law and his real-life daughter-in-law plays another; his sister plays Agnes' best friend and his son plays a friend of her son's.
  • Renewed Before Premiere: The show was renewed in 2020 in such a way so that it can keep running until 2026.
  • What Could Have Been: There was plans for a spinoff based around the salon where Rory and Dino work.
  • Written by Cast Member: Brendan O'Carroll.
