Trivia / Mr. Men

Go To

  • Development Hell: 20th Century Fox has had an animated feature film in the works since 2015, with nothing else coming out since then. Since the company was purchased by Disney and Blue Sky shutting down, along with the announcement of a new Mr. Men TV series shortly afterward, it's safe to say that plans for a movie have been cancelled.
  • Digital Destruction: On DVD releases of the 1983 Little Miss series, two episodes ("Splendid" and "Bossy") have instances where the audio is muted out for a few seconds; likely the result of a digitizing error. Oddly, the uncut audio for "Little Miss Splendid" remains intact on the Sunday Times promotional DVD featuring this episode.
  • No Export for You: Eleven French-created characters were made and never released outside of France and Greece. Monsieur Bagarreur (Mr. Crosspatch) in particular was likely never released because the subject matter (a Mr. Men who beats people up for making him mad) wasn't that family-friendly. This didn't stop him from becoming a Memetic Badass and Ensemble Dark Horse amongst the fandom, though.
  • Outlived Its Creator: Roger Hargreaves died in 1988. His son Adam (who had started the whole thing by asking what a tickle looks like) has written new books about the existing characters, as well as new characters, characters his father had created but never used, and the Doctor Who and Spice Girls crossovers.
  • Technology Marches On: In Little Miss Shy's book, it's shown that because she is so shy that she doesn't go shopping and thus grows her own food in the garden. In this day and age, Miss Shy could've easily done her shopping online.
    • Mr. Quiet's story also shows him being unable to shop for anything due to the Loudland residents being unable to hear his inaudible voice. Again, today Mr. Quiet could've shopped online.
    • When Mr Clumsy goes shopping: "He went into the bank to get some money, but while writing a cheque he managed to spill ink all over the bank manager." Writing a cheque (especially using ink that can be spilled) to get money for shopping is a very outdated concept.
    • When Mr Topsy-Turvy gets off the train, he does so on the wrong side, and falls on to the tracks. This would be impossible now, with trains having electric sliding doors, which only open on the correct side.
  • Write Who You Know: Roger Hargreaves based the Little Miss Twins on his two daughters, Amelia and Sophie.
  • Written for My Kids: The series was created as Roger's son Adam asked what a tickle looked like.
