Trivia / Mark Wahlberg

  • Doing It for the Art: He went far out of his way to get The Fighter made. His career in general contains a much higher percentage of serious drama than one might reasonably expect from a former rapper.
  • Dyeing for Your Art: He trained every day for four years waiting for The Fighter (where he played a boxer) to escape Development Hell.
  • Name's the Same: Not be confused with Mark L. Walberg, who announced the Lifetime run of Shop 'Til You Drop, hosted USA Network's USA Gonzo Games and Free 4 All, GSN's Russian Roulette and Fox's The Moment Of Truth, and is currently the host of PBS' Antiques Roadshow.
  • Near Misses: Both he and Ted co-star Seth MacFarlane were scheduled (separately) to be on Flight 11, one of the planes that crashed into the Twin Towers. Wahlberg decided to go to a Toronto film festival instead at the last minute.
  • Old Shame:
    • In a rare case of a musician actually disowning his entire musical career, Wahlberg has no interest whatsoever revisiting his career as rapper Marky Mark. In an interview, he described coming across a VH-1 retro-'90s special in which he appeared, and apparently he didn't find it as funny as the VH1 commentators did.
Mark Wahlberg: Oh my God, how am I going to explain this to my kids?
    • This even earns some Self-Deprecation in Rock Star: During the credits, his character says he'll leave rock and attempt to do rap. While "Good Vibrations" by Marky Mark is playing in the background.
    • Some of his earlier films as well, such as Fear, where he played a psychopathic stalker, rapist and murderer.
    • Less than two years after it came out, he blasted The Happening; a big reason he took it was because he played a science teacher instead of a cop or a crook.
  • Production Posse: So far, he starred in three films directed by David O. Russell.
  • Reality Subtext: In Fear, Wahlberg played the role of a violent stalker who's willing to kill people just to be with the girl he's obsessed about. In real life, Wahlberg does have a criminal record with assault on the list, making his performance in the movie all the more realistic and sublime.
