- Actor Allusion: Or something of the sort, maybe with a bit of Follow the Leader? Alex Pettyfer, who plays the lead in this book-series single film adaptation did the same for the Alex Rider novels, written by Anthony Horowitz. The only non-spy series written by Horowitz is called... The Power of Five, which is the naming convention for this series' books. The premise of a bunch of teenagers with the powers of some elders inside them waiting to come out who now have to save Earth for some reason also sounds startlingly familiar.

- Flip-Flop of God: The ages of the characters and whether people and things of the planet Lorien are Loric or Lorien keeps changing.
- Follow the Leader: The author Pittacus Lore outright wrote the books to follow in the footsteps of Harry Potter and Twilight to create a new film franchise.
- Throw It In!: An example of Exact Words gone wrong when Four asks if Nine "had the same vision?" and Nine snarks back, condescendingly, that "No, you idiot. Haven't you figured it out yet? I didn't have a vision too. We were in the same vision." Four is "flustered" and Nine is really pissed at him.
