Trivia / Looking

  • Actor Allusion:
    • All three main actors (Jonathan Groff, Frankie J. Alvarez and Murray Bartlett) seem to have characters named after them in the show: Kevin's boyfriend is named Jon, Agustín's boyfriend is named Frank, and Patrick's last name is Murray.
    • When Kevin and Patrick are coming up with archetype ideas for their game in "Looking for Results", Patrick mocks Kevin by suggesting a "lusty lads of London" card, to which Kevin replies by pointedly suggesting "farm boy with big ideas". This is a clear allusion to Jonathan Groff, who was raised in a farm.
  • Actor-Shared Background:
    • Raúl Castillo and his character Richie are both of Mexican descent.
    • Frankie J. Alvarez and his character Agustín are both from Miami.
    • Russell Tovey and his character Kevin are from close-by London towns (Billericay and Romford, respectively).
  • Fake American: Murray Bartlett (Dom) is Australian and O-T Fagbenle (Frank) is English.
  • I Want You to Meet an Old Friend of Mine: Christine Estabrook, who plays the realtor who walks in on Patrick and Kevin talking dirty in "Looking for Sanctuary", played Jonathan Groff's mother in the original cast of Spring Awakening.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot:
    • Jonathan Groff has said Patrick and Kevin's storyline in "Looking for Home" was based on a real-life relationship of his.
"I had told Andrew [Haigh] of a break up I had where the other guy wanted to be in an open relationship—so he wrote that situation for Patrick and Kevin."
    • Scott Bakula's casting in NCIS: New Orleans limited Lynn's participation in season 2. The only reason Lynn was back at all was because Bakula loved the show so much he flew from New Orleans to San Francisco on his days off just so he could be in it for a few more episodes.
