* FakeMixedRace: Caine is half Chinese. David Carradine was not.
* FakeNationality: In addition to David Carradine (although in fairness, Caine was half-white), the two-part episode "Besieged" featured his partner at the time Barbara Hershey (then billed as Barbara Seagull) as [[WTHCastingAgency a Chinese girl called Nan Ching]].
* IronyAsSheIsCast: David Carradine had no formal martial arts training of any sort. He had received some training as a dancer when he was younger.
* RealLifeRelative: In several episodes, a younger Kwai Chang Caine was played by Creator/KeithCarradine, David Carradine's younger brother. Their other brother Robert Carradine and their father Creator/JohnCarradine also appeared in episodes (as Sonny Jim and Serenity Johnson, respectively).
* RecycledSet: The set for the Shaolin Temple was originally a set used for ''Film/{{Camelot}}'' that was inexpensively and effectively converted for the Chinese setting.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Creator/BruceLee was supposed to star as Caine, but the networks were unsure about casting an Asian actor in the lead, believing that that an American TV audience wasn't quite ready for an Asian actor in the lead role. According to an interview with Lee's widow, Linda Lee Cadwell, Bruce Lee had originated the concept.
** According to the producers, even though Lee was consulted and considered for the lead, they believed that they created the concept and that Carradine was always their first choice.
* WorkingTitle: ''The Warrior''.
