Trivia / Kelly Clarkson

  • Acclaimed Flop: My December is this. Positively reviewed, very left wing lyrically, extremely personal and literal. Wasn't that successful and her companies disown it to a degree.
  • Black Sheep Hit: Inverted with "Because of You". She re-recorded the song with Reba McEntire and released it to country radio. She's made the country charts again in 2010 with the Jason Aldean duet "Don't You Wanna Stay" (and a third time with a remix of "Mr. Know It All", and a fourth with "Don't Rush").
  • Creator Breakdown: It could be argued that most of her music leans this way, with very few love songs and happy songs in general. My December is the greatest example of this type of thing.
  • The Danza: Other than playing Brenda Lee on American Dreams, Kelly's few non-As Herself acting roles tend to be this - see Reba and From Justin To Kelly. (Actually, in the case of the latter, don't. She'll thank you later.)
  • Development Hell: Her company pushed back Stronger by about six months.
  • Fan Nickname: Kelly's fans nicknamed her butt "Big Bob". Yes, really.
  • Old Shame: Starring in the terrible film From Justin to Kelly, which was required in the contract she got by winning American Idol.
  • One of Us: A fan of Star Wars, Star Trek, The Walking Dead, Once Upon a Time, and Harry Potter.
  • The Other Darrin: At a few gigs where Vince Gill was unavailable, she had Jason Sellers sing his part on "Don't Rush".
  • Romance on the Set: Justin Guarini revealed in his 2014 one man show that he and Kelly had a fling during the filming of From Justin To Kelly in 2003.
  • Screwed by the Network: Kelly claims Clive Davis did this to her "My December" album.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song:
    • "Since U Been Gone" is a modified version of Yeah Yeah Yeahs's "Maps". The song's writer, Max Martin, had heard the song and while he loved it, he was thrown off by the lack of a chorus towards the end and decided to write his own version of the song.
    • "Already Gone" has a very similar arrangement to Beyoncé's "Halo", and both songs were co-written by OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder. Once Kelly heard "Halo", she tried to keep "Already Gone" off All I Ever Wanted, fearing she'd be wrongfully blamed for the similarities, but the track-list had already been finalized; Executive Meddling subsequently led to it being released as a single. Because of the similarities, she performed it on the tour promoting the album in a new acoustic arrangement, and even sang it as a medley with "Halo" once.
  • What Could Have Been: "Breakaway" was originally written in 2002 for Avril Lavigne's album Let Go, hence Avril being credited as one of the song's writers. She passed on releasing it because it didn't fit in with the rest of Let Go, but it was subsequently pitched to other performers and was eventually recorded by Kelly. Avril Lavigne's demo recording of the song eventually leaked online in 2014.
