Trivia / Jason and the Argonauts
Actor Allusion: In the miniseries Hercules is played by Brian Thompson who previously appeared in an episode of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.
Advertised Extra: Natasha Henstridge is billed third in the 2000 miniseries, yet only appears for twenty minutes in the middle of part one.
Nancy Kovak receives second billing in the Harryhausen film, yet does not appear until over an hour in.
In the Hallmark film Derek Jacobi and Natasha Henstridge receive high billing, despite only appearing in the first part.
The Danza: Jason is played by Jason London in the Hallmark film.
Executive Meddling: For the 1963 film, Harryhausen stated that he wanted to avoid the Italian muscle man stereotype present in films at that time when casting Hercules.
Lying Creator: Some versions of the Hallmark version's DVD advertise "over four hours of epic adventure." With the two episodes edited together, the miniseries runs at only three hours.
Making Use of the Twin: Jason London's twin Jeremy (also an actor) doubled for him in parts.
Stillborn Franchise: Harryhaussen originally intended to make a sequel, indicated by the Left Hanging ending. However he opted to do the Sinbad sequels instead and more Jason films were never made. Possibly the myth's Downer Ending contributed to this.
What Could Have Been:
For the Harryhaussen film, other creatures considered to appear would have included the twin monsters Scylla and Charybdis, the three-headed dog Cerberus and Jason's centaur mentor Chiron.
The film was originally going to be a Sinbad sequel, featuring Sinbad helping Jason search for the Fleece.
Terence Stamp was the first choice to play Jason.
