Trivia: Im Juli

  • Hey, It's That Guy!:
    • As usual for a Fatih Akin film, the director's brother Cem Akin has a small part, as a Turkish border official.
    • Mehmet Kurtuluş (Isa), an old regular in Fatih Akin's films, later became Kommissar Cenk Batu.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: The scenes in which Daniel tries to teach an unruly class were shot at the school which Fatih Akin attended as a teenager.
  • Serendipity Writes the Plot:
    • When Daniel and Juli are traveling through Romania, only photos are shown instead of real film footage. The reason for that is the Romanian government didn't give permission to film in their country, so they had to take photos instead.
    • Originally, Daniel and Juli were supposed to sing The Cure's "Friday I'm In Love", but the rights were too expensive. When the music supervisor was able to secure the rights for "Blue Moon" instead, the script was changed at the last minute to include a conversation on oldies.
  • What Could Have Been: The scene between Daniel and Luna was supposed to be more erotic, but actress Branka Katić felt uncomfortable about performing in the nude, which is why instead the scene has the surreal effect of Luna becoming Daniel's puppeteer.
