• Dawson Casting: Jimmy is intended to be 16, but Robert Lowell is pretty clearly pushing 30. Mary Beth Hughes was 25 at the time, while Kitty is presumably meant to be in her late teens. Lampshaded by Joel.

  • The film's writer, Arthur Caesar, had ten years earlier won an Oscar for Manhattan Melodrama, the movie that bank robber John Dillinger saw just before he was gunned down in front of Chicago's Biograph Theater on July 22, 1934. ^note Caesar actually wrote the short story the film was based on and wasn’t involved with the film itself, but he was given the award for the story.
  • The composers of the songs, Jay Livingston and Ray Evans, would go on to win three Oscars for Best Original Song ("Buttons and Bows", "Mona Lisa", "Que Sera, Sera"), plus "Silver Bells" and the Mister Ed theme song.
