• California Doubling: Takes place in Colorado Springs, Colorado but filmed in Knoxville, Tennessee.
• Dueling Shows:
  • With I Am Homicide, a show that follows the exact same format—highly successful retired detective speaking directly to the camera as he recalls his cases (and in both instances, the cops swear that they don't need a script, as they remember nearly every detail of every case), played by younger actor in flashbacks, etc. The only differences are the race of the detective (African-American), the locale (North Carolina), and the amount of cases (nearly 700 as opposed to Kenda's nearly 400). With their very similar titles, it's easy to even mistake one for the other when talking about either.
  • Also with Street Justice: The Bronx, the stories of legendary New York City detective Ralph Friedman. Again, the now-retired cop regales his audience with stories of the crimes he's investigated.
• The Other Darrin:
  • Kathy Kenda is played by an actress other than Courtney Vanderpool in season five's "City of Fear".
  • Joe Kenda himself is recast in the follow-up two-hour documentaries, Homicide Hunter: Never Give Up and Homicide Hunter: Devil in the Mountains.
