Trivia / Holy Musical B@man!

Go To

  • Accidentally-Correct Writing: Sweet Tooth was thought up before the makers discovered that there was an actual (if mostly unknown) Batman villain with the same name and the same candy motif.
  • Actor Allusion
  • Creator's Favorite Episode: In a very classy move, Darren Criss praised this show — the first Starkid show he had no involvement in — as having his favorite music by far of all the Starkid canon, and said Nick Gage's songwriting was far superior to what he would've come up with. He even said that he played "Dark, Sad, Lonely Knight" at the party when he received his Emmy Award.
  • Promoted Fanboy: Denise Donovan has been obsessed with Catwoman since she was a kid, so getting to play Catwoman in this show qualifies as this.
  • What Could Have Been: Believe it or not, this show was already in the planning stages all the way back in 2009, as one of the parody musicals that A Very Potter Musical was originally just one example of. The Langs were initially uncertain if they'd ever get to make Holy Musical B@man if their other plans worked out, and had offered to let Joey Richter and Arielle Goldman direct it as a college show, recommending A.J. Holmes to play the Joker. Needless to say, that would've been a very different production than what we got.
    • Darren Criss got as far as writing his own version of the Opening Chorus, which was much more in his signature pop-rock style, before his commitment to Glee forced him to bow out. Darren has since said this was for the best and he greatly prefers Nick Gage's compositions to what he could've come up with.
    • The original casting had Chris Allen playing Sweet Tooth, but his flawless Michael Caine impression convinced the Langs to rework the show and cast him as Alfred. When looking for a replacement Sweet Tooth they immediately thought of their UMich colleague Jeff Blim's signature Slasher Smile, and Blim's energy took the character in a totally different direction (and inducted the future composer of The Trail to Oregon! and The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals into the Starkid family).
