Trivia / Highlander III: The Sorcerer

Go To

  • Box Office Bomb: The film had its budget trimmed a little, but still had a sizable budget in spite of The Quickening's failure, but it performed only slightly better that that film critically and worse commercially. Budget, $26,000,000. Box Office, $12,308,080. They waited six years for the next attempt.
  • California Doubling: Montreal doubled for New York in some scenes. This is noticeable not just in some of the buildings, but a lot of Canadian character actors appear in bit parts as well.
  • Creator Killer: After this, director Andy Morahan has committed his career almost exclusively to music videos, which he had been doing both before and after this film. He didn't direct another film for another fifteen years, namely Goal! III, which went straight-to-video and received negative reviews.
  • Deleted Role: During filming in Montreal, two local punk rockers with Mohawks were hired as extras for a scene in which they attempt to rob the newly awakened Kane in a dark alley. The two were paid a nominal fee, and thanked for their services before shooting. The scene was cut after they were seen taking drugs on the set and overheard plotting to kidnap Mario Van Peebles by driving away in the make-up RV with him in it.
  • Irony as She Is Cast: Christopher Lambert plays a Scotsman who has lived as an emigrĂ©e in pre-revolutionary France, the actor's native country.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The original version was going to have flashbacks to Scotland and England with Connor wielding Ramirez's samurai sword. Rachel and Detective Bedsoe, now Lieutenant Bedsoe, would be supporting characters from the first film. Alex Johnson was originally called Jennifer Hillman. A new character, Thomas Cavanaugh, would be Connor and Ramirez's friend from 17th century Scotland. Kane was going to be the illusionist Kilvara, who learned illusion from a mortal wizard trapped in a cave after being condemned to death. The last battle would occur in a museum instead of a factory.
    • During early development, the movie was going to be a prequel about Connor arriving in New York at the start of The Gathering.
    • Director Andy Morahan had directed several music videos for Guns N' Roses, and wanted them to do a soundtrack for this film similar to how Queen did the music in the original film. According to Morahan, they were excited about the idea, but it fell through when Axl Rose refused to do it if Mario Van Peebles remained in the film. The reason for Axl's dislike of Peebles has never been explained.
  • Working Title: Highlander III: The Reckoning.
