• The Danza: Mark Curry as Mark Cooper. The first episode's end credit scene makes a joke out of this, as the real-life Mark tries to properly introduce himself to viewers and ends up having to interrupt the studio logo to do so.
• Dueling Works: Sort of. The show faced some competition from The Steve Harvey Show in its last two seasons but it was already on its way out the door by then.
• Recycled Set: The pilot recycled the Seaver house set from Growing Pains, which just ended its run; the first episode of this show had Alan Thicke in character as Jason Seaver only to find Mark Curry out of character on the couch, and in turn Thicke promptly removed the Seaver portrait from the wall; the next episode had Curry pointing out they got a new set.
• Real Song Theme Tune: "Soul Man" during Season 2.
• Screwed by the Network: The final season ended being moved off the TGIF block to Saturday nights during the summer, and the final episode was preempted 5 minutes in on the West Coast for news coverage about the death of Princess Diana.
• What Could Have Been: Mark Curry wanted the final episode to merely end the 5th season and go on to a 6th season, but ABC had other ideas.
