Trivia / 42

  • Enforced Method Acting: A mild example, but still counts. Alan Tudyk (Ben Chapman) and Chadwick Boseman (Jackie Robinson) deliberately avoided each-other during the shoot, except on camera, so that any friendliness between the actors wouldn't obscure the animosity of their characters.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: At one point, Jackie tells his wife "God built me to last." In real life, Robinson unfortunately passed away at 53.
  • Mean Character, Nice Actor: Alan Tudyk is a very nice man in real life and was uncomfortable saying the racial slurs his character uses.
  • Star-Making Role: This is the film that made Chadwick Boseman a Hollywood leading man and would eventually lead to his most famous role as King T'Challa/BlackPanther.
  • What Could Have Been: Robert Redford was also considered for the part of Branch Rickey.
