Trivia / Flushed Away

  • Actor Allusion:
    • Whitey, Voiced by Bill Nighy, has a button on his front in the shape of a V symbol that those familiar with the Underworld movies would recognize.
    • Hugh Jackman's character briefly considers a Wolverine costume when picking what clothes to wear.
    • Jean Reno plays a frog. (For those not in the know, Frog is a (not very) derogatory term for Frenchman, just like Limey is for Englishman)
    • In the Brazilian dub of the movie, the fish that asks Roddy if he's seen his father was voiced by Gustavo Pereira, who also did the voice of Nemo.
  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer: Some people have confused this movie with Ratatouille. It doesn't help that both films are CGI, involve rats and were out in theatres around the same time.
  • Creator Killer: Due to heavy Executive Meddling, Aardman broke off their five-picture contract with DreamWorks Animation towards the end of the film's production.
  • Executive Meddling: Slammed down on hard as a rock and the reason the two studios broke off their five-picture contract. A pirate movie, The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists!, was originally planned as Aardman's follow-up to Chicken Run, but DreamWorks put it in Development Hell when they said pirates weren't marketable (this being shortly after Cutthroat Island killed the pirate movie genre but before the Pirates of the Caribbean films revived itnote , and when this film was greenlit, it was Christmas Rushed so that it could be released with The Curse of the Were-Rabbit still fresh in audiences' minds, hence why it was CGI instead of claymation. DreamWorks also insisted than Aardman tone down it's trademark British stoicism in favor of the former's then-newfound Denser and Wackier style, something that had been attempted but fought on Were-Rabbit.
  • Fake Brit: Roddy is voiced by Hugh Jackman, an Australian.
  • I Want You to Meet an Old Friend of Mine: Ian McKellen and Jean Reno previously appeared together in The Da Vinci Code. The former as Leigh Teabing, the latter as Captain Bezu Fache.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • As noted above, this was originally intended as a pirate movie, which DreamWorks dubbed "unmarketable" at the time. Unlike most cases, however, it has since been.
    • Sid was originally going to be voiced by Ricky Gervais but he left at some point during pre-production.
    • Roddy also was supposed to have hamster butlers, if what was expected in the trailer to be true. They're only in the video game.
