Trivia / FeardotCom

  • Box Office Bomb: Budget: $40,000,000; Gross: $13,258,249 (domestic), $18,902,015 (worldwide).
  • Creator Backlash: In a 2013 interview, Stephen Dorff mentioned FeardotCom as one of the films he wasn't proud of.
  • Creator Killer:
    • The career of director William Malone, who had been working fairly regularly in film and TV since the early 80s and had a reasonable hit with House on Haunted Hill (1999) a few years prior, was stalled in its tracks by the critical and commercial drubbing of this film. Since then, he's only directed an episode of Masters of Horror, and the film Parasomnia, which failed to get a theatrical release in the U.S.
    • This is also screenwriter Josephine Coyle's only film credit, outside of a couple of obscure indie flicks.
  • What Could Have Been: While the film's title was always "FeardotCom", the website in-universe was originally just supposed to be called "fear.com". However, the producers didn't own that domain name, and the people who did refused to sell it for any price, resulting in the fictional website's name ending up as "feardotcom.com".
