• Cast the Runner-Up: Nicholas Courtney was supposed to play Captain Knight while David Langton was Colonel Lethbridge-Stewart. Langton dropped out of the role to work elsewhere, so Courtney become the Colonel and Ralph Watson now playing the Captain.
• First Appearance: Of Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart (though here, he's a Colonel).
• Missing Episode: Until 2013, Episodes 2-6 were missing, with only Episode 1 and some clips to represent the story. Episode 3, meanwhile, is the only episode to actually be found and then go missing again. It was found along with the others in Nigeria, but it was stolen/sold before the BBC could get their hands on it (probably because, as the first on-screen appearance of Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart, it is one of the most sought after Missing Episodes ever). Its current whereabouts are unknown; most likely in the hands of a private collector.
• Prop Recycling: The control spheres and a Yeti costume were reused from "The Abominable Snowmen".
• Real-Life Relative: Deborah Watling's father Jack returns as Professor Travers.
• Recurring Extra: Though he's a main character in both cases, Professor Travers has the honor of being the first character to appear in multiple serials outside of the Doctor, companions, and villains/monsters. (And indeed, he and his daughter were meant to have one more appearance.)
• What Could Have Been: Silverstein’s museum was supposed to take place at the National History Museum. They were similarly going to film the story in the real London Underground until they were charged too much.
• You Look Familiar: Nicholas Courtney had previously played Bret Vyon in "The Daleks' Master Plan".
