- Development Hell: Despera was first announced in 2009. Due to the health problems (and subqequent death) of the director the project was put on hold. ABe announced that the work would continue in october 2014.
- Died During Production: Orginally Despera was meant to be a reunion of character designer Yoshitoshi ABe, writer Chiaki Konaka and director Ryutaro Nakamura, the first time all three collaborated since Lain. Sadly,Ryutaro Nakamura passed away in 2013.
- What Could Have Been: If not for Ryutaro Nakamura passing away, this would have been the first time all three main creators of Serial Experiments Lain would have worked together again. It will still involve a lot of the same crew however according to ABe.
