Trivia / Crimzon Clover

Go To

  • Cut Song: "Cafe Cri-Clo" is used in the original release for the in-game shop, but it was demoted to this in World Ignition, not being played at all in the game since the shop is gone but still appearing on the World Ignition original soundtrack.
  • Denial of Digital Distribution: The original doujin release was released exclusively as a physical disc. The Limited Special Collector's Ultimate Edition of World EXplosion rereleases the doujin version...on a USB stick.
  • Development Hell: not as drastic as other cases, but the first real appearance of the game to the english-speaking audience was in January 2010. Many people were expecting the full game to be at the following Comiket (number 78 - the 79th Comiket did have the full version). The game has finally shipped to preorderers (in late December), and the retail release is January 3, 2011. Yes, over a full year was spent on this game.
    • Better yet, according to Yotsubane's blog, it actually took him five years to finish this game.
  • Fan Translation: The manual of the original was translated into English. This was not needed for World Ignition, as it was properly localized into multiple foreign languages, including English.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes:
    • The original release version of the game is very hard to find especially outside of Japan, due to No Export for You and the game only being available in physical format much like a large number of other doujin games.
    • As of December 21st, this also applies to the Steam version of World Ignition, being removed from the service due to the release of World EXplosion. It's still available on GOG, though. That said, there isn't much reason to get it over WEX except perhaps for archival/preservation purposes and if you really want to avoid Steam DRM, as WEX comes with all of World Ignition's content.
  • No Export for You: The arcade Updated Re-release is only available on the digital arcade content delivery service NESiCAxLive, which is exclusive to Japanese arcades. However, it does have a PC port on Steam and GOG which averts this trope with an international release. While online-enabled NxL is available in Round 1 locations in the United States, it is unlikely you'll find CriClo on an NxL cab in the United States as the operator has to order the game and NxL cabs there are unlikely to be used for non-Fighting Games due to lack of demand for such titles.
  • No Plans, No Prototype, No Backup: The soundtrack as offered on Steam is in a 128-kbps MP3 format, which is considered low quality by modern standards. Apparently, this trope is the reason for that: the hard drive that the music files were stored on crashed.
  • Promoted Fanboy: The translator of the original version's manual, nZero, was acknowledged by Yotsubane, who mirrored the translation.
  • Recursive Adaptation: PC original → arcade adaptation as Crimzon Clover for NESiCAxLive → PC version again as Crimzon Clover World Ignition → Nintendo Switch Updated Re-release as Crimzon Clover World EXplosion → PC version yet again as World EXplosion.
  • Remade for the Export: The original game is a Japan-only release, but the game has no Region Coding and simply requires a PC with enough power to take it and a modern version of Windows. Crimzon Clover for NESiCAxLive is not only Japan-only, but is limited to the NESiCAxLive platform, a digital distribution service for arcade cabinets with service limited to Japan. CCfNxL was ported back to PC as Crimzon Clover WORLD IGNITION and released internatonally with seven language options, including English and Japanese.
  • Reformulated Game: Crimzon Clover for NESiCAxLive is of the Reformulated Port variety, being a revision of the doujin original. In order to better adapt the game for arcade platforms, the game's difficulty was adjusted by making enemy patterns more difficult, introducing a new method of earning extra lives that's more difficult while also removing the option to get a 1-Up at the end of every stage, making Break Mode's duration shorter, and removing Simple Mode in exchange for Boost Mode.

  • The developer, Yotsubane, is also Clover-TAC, a well-known shmup superplayer.
