Trivia / Chris Farley

  • Creator Backlash: He hated Beverly Hills Ninja, and while it was far from the only cause of his depression, his fallout from its failure and his disappointment with it led to his fatal binging.
  • Funny Character, Boring Actor: Contrasted to his boisterous, outgoing on-screen persona, he was actually a shy Gentle Giant. The awkward, mumbling nervous wreck on The Chris Farley Show? That was how he really was.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Farley was originally cast as Shrek, and recorded some dialogue before his death. The role was recast with his SNL co-star Mike Myers.
      • It's been rumored that the first line of dialog in the film during the narration in the beginning "Once upon a time, there was a lovely princess." was in fact the one Farley recorded when he had the role. It's still unknown to this day if it's true or not. Also in homage of Farley was Shrek's use of air quotes, which Farley did as Bennett Brauer, who was a semi-regular Weekend Update character.
    • He was planning on starring in two dramatic biopics: one about disgraced silent film star Fatty Arbuckle and one about Nazi officer Hermann Goering.
    • He and David Spade were planning on making a movie centered on his Matt Foley character.
    • The role of Chip in The Cable Guy was originally written with him in mind. When he declined due to schedule conflicts, the role was given to Jim Carrey instead.
    • Farley was supposed to star with his SNL castmates Sandler, Spade, Rock, and Schneider in Grown Ups. After his death, the movie was put on hold, and over a decade later, it was finally made with Kevin James in the role meant for him.
    • He was considered for the title role in a live-action adaptation of Captain Underpants. The first book was published mere months before his death and the idea was immediately scrapped (the eventual movie was animated and starred Ed Helms.)
